District 12 enjoyed taking part in KEEN (Kentucky Engineering Exposure Network) and Community Helper Days at Valley Elementary!

From preschool to middle school, students explored hands-on learning opportunities, everything from seatbelt safety and learning about our Maintenance crews to building bridges and discovering engineering careers and scholarships with KYTC.

We’re proud to help inspire the next generation right here in Eastern Kentucky!

Roadwork is getting underway at the Hal Rogers Parkway (KY 80) and KY 160 intersection to improve safety and create a longer-lasting roadway.

β€’ Work begins Monday, April 6
β€’ Milling starts Tuesday, April 7
β€’ πŸš— KY 80 Westbound (toward Hazard) will be reduced to ONE LANE

⚠️ Expect:
β€’ Changing traffic patterns over the next 2–3 months
β€’ Lane closures shifting throughout the project
β€’ Possible delays

🚧 Rockfall Stabilization Project – Pikeville Bypass (KY 1426) 🚧

A major safety improvement project is set to begin along the Pikeville Bypass starting:

πŸ“… Monday, April 20 (after Hillbilly Days)

This $3.5 million project will help reduce rockfalls and improve safety, building on similar work completed years ago on the bypass, that has already proven effective.

πŸ“ Project Breakdown:

Phase 1 (MP 5.7–6.1)
β€’ Summit Drive to Harold’s Branch
β€’ Runs through summer (goal: finish before school starts)
β€’ 🚦 Flagging at Summit expected mid-July

Phase 2 (MP 5.5–5.6)
β€’ Hospital Drive to Bypass Church of God
β€’ 1 month duration
β€’ Will NOT begin until Phase 1 is complete

⚠️ What to Expect:
β€’ Full closure during each phase
β€’ πŸš— Detours:
β€’ Use Burchett Way for local access
β€’ Use US 23 instead of US 119 (Town Mountain) for through traffic
β€’ πŸ“’ Message boards will be posted along US 119

πŸ₯ Local Access:
β€’ One-way daytime access to Health Department & Mountain Comprehensive Care (via Harold’s Branch light, flaggers on site)
β€’ Closed in evenings, with plans to restore two-way access ASAP

🚦 Traffic Adjustments:
β€’ Longer green light at Summit Drive
β€’ Temporary changes at Harold’s Branch

πŸ‘· KYTC is working closely with local partners and schools to monitor traffic and make adjustments as needed.

πŸš— Please plan ahead, follow detours, and use caution in the work zone.

πŸ™ We appreciate your patience as we make the Pikeville Bypass safer for everyone!

β€’ KY 292 (Aflex)
