At approximately 7:02 pm on 4/21/2026, Piketon Seal Township Fire Department Wildland Fire Unit was dispatched to the 2500 block of Keiser Road to assist Waverly Fire Department with a large woodland fire. Rapid Response 407, Brush 408, Tanker 411, and UTV 4 responded.

Once on scene, units found heavy fire being pushed uphill by strong gusts of wind. Units were requested to utilize UTV 4 to attack the right flank to slow down the spread. Units utilized rakes, saws, and UTV 4’s water gun to begin attacking the line, which had reached a large thicket area.

Once in the thicket, the fire moved rapidly fueled by dead underbrush and gusts of wind. Units were forced to retreat due to deteriorating conditions. At this time, ODNR Forestry Division arrived with their Bulldozer.

The dozer was able to cut a fire line around the outside of the right flank to attempt to stop the spread. Once cut, units were stationed along the perimeter to ensure no embers jumped the line. All units returned to service at 9:31 pm.

Approximately 20 acres were burned. We would like to thank Waverly Fire Department and Ohio Division of Natural Resources Forestry Department for their dedication and service on scene!

At approximately 7:26pm on 1/10/2026, Piketon Seal Township Fire Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on US 23 in Piketon.

Upon arrival, units found a two-vehicle motor vehicle accident with minor injuries.

This call came in during our annual Christmas dinner and marked a special moment in our department’s history, as it was the first emergency response utilizing our newly installed historic fire pole.

The pole originally served Fire Patrol Station No. 3 (later No. 1) at 240 West 30th Street in Manhattan, a station constructed in 1894–1895. The New York Fire Patrol was a private fire protection and salvage organization that worked alongside the FDNY, responding to fires to protect life and property. The building remained in active service until the Fire Patrol was decommissioned in 2006.

This pole served firefighters for more than 110 years at its Manhattan station.

Our units were able to purchase this pole from the buildings new owners and traveled to New York to bring it to its new home here in Piketon.

At the time, sliding fire poles were a revolutionary innovation, allowing firefighters to quickly descend from upper living quarters to the apparatus floor below, saving valuable seconds during emergencies. More than 130 years later, this pole continues to serve the same purpose — helping firefighters respond quickly when the alarm sounds.

We would like to give a huge thank you to American Metal Works for fabricating the railing and mounts to install this piece of history here in Piketon.

At approximately 9:56pm on 12/9/2025, Piketon Seal Township Fire Department was dispatched to the area of Wakefield Mound Rd. and US 23 to assist Scioto Township Fire Department on a double semi rollover with entrapment.

While in route, units were advised that all occupants had been extricated and that it was a tandem trailer semi, not two trucks.

Once on scene, units were requested to divert north bound traffic on US 23 to Wakefield Mound Road. ODOT was requested for traffic control and relieved units on scene. All units returned to service at 12:30am.

We would like to thank Scioto Township Fire Department, PORTS Fire Department, Portsmouth Ambulance, Pike County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and Ohio Department of Transportation for your dedication and assistance on scene!
