When a call comes in for a patient pinned 25 feet up a tree, it takes a village. Our Heavy Rescue Squad responded into Chestnut Ridge Volunteer Fire Company 500’s area early Sunday afternoon to assist with this challenging high-angle rescue. Excellent job by all crews on the scene from CRVFC, Glyndon Volunteer Fire Department, and Baltimore County Fire Department to stabilize the scene and free the patient quickly. Outstanding coordination from everyone involved, including Maryland State Police - Aviation Command. Job well done, everyone! 👇 Thinking of the patient and wishing them a full recovery. 🙏

This is Christian. He is one of PVFC's junior members. He is a very busy young man. As you can see from his uniform, he is also a member of the Gamber & Community Volunteer Fire Company. Last month, Christian, along with his EMT partner, won the Maryland state competition for SkillsUSA. Last week, he graduated from Carroll County's Emergency Services Technology program. This week, he graduated from high school. As I write this, Christian and his partner are waiting for the awards ceremony at the SkillsUSA national competition in Atlanta. We know that they have finished in the top 8 in the nation already.

You can support Christian and our other junior members by clicking to http://www.tinyurl.com/pvfc5050 and getting your chance at half the pot tonight at 8 PM. Right now the pot is $28,000 and growing!

Ever wonder what your local volunteer firefighters do on a beautiful Sunday? We train! 🧑‍🚒☀️

We spent last Sunday working hard alongside Chestnut Ridge Volunteer Fire Company 500 at the Milford Mill Metro station for a joint Engine Company Operations training day.

Under the expert guidance of PVFC instructors John Berryman, Steve Sindler, Rickie Holden, and Chestnut Ridge Captain TJ Cook, our members tackled everything from rural water drafting and hydrant operations to 2.5-inch hoseline advancement and foam deployment.

We love training with our mutual aid partners to ensure we provide the highest level of protection for our surrounding communities. Check out some of the action! 👇

Fire Safety for Older Adults: Knowing what to do in the event of a fire is particularly important for older adults. People age 65 and older are twice as likely to be killed or injured by fires.

1. “Keep it low.” If you don't live in an apartment building, consider sleeping in a room on the ground floor in order to make emergency escape easier.
2. Make sure that smoke alarms are installed in every sleeping room and outside any sleeping areas. Have a telephone installed where you sleep in case of emergency.
3. When looking for an apartment or high-rise home, look for one with an automatic sprinkler system. Sprinklers can extinguish a home fire in less time that it takes for the fire department to arrive. (Source: National Fire Protection Association)

Summer will be here soon: That means more teen drivers on the road!

Less-experienced teen drivers are more often on the roads in the summer months. Whether heading to jobs, events or social activities at times they normally would be in school, these young drivers can be distracted by passengers or technology or simply confused by traffic.

In fact, technology is a teen hazard even when they are walking—no matter the season! About 85 percent of teens struck or nearly struck by a vehicle while crossing the street reported that they were listening to music, texting or talking on the phone. Additionally, teens hit or nearly hit “more frequently reported crossing in the middle of a block or running across the street.”

The rules for driving don’t change during the summer months, but the challenge does. Go into it with your eyes wide open. (Source: Safe Kids Worldwide)

Congratulations to PVFC member Richard Holden, who took home the Firefighter of the Year Award at the Baltimore County Volunteer Firefighters Association (BCVFA) annual awards dinner on May 13th.

This award recognizes individuals who show outstanding citizenship and go above and beyond to better their department and the community at large.

Rickie has dedicated over five decades to public safety in Baltimore County. A former career firefighter with the Baltimore County Fire Department, he has been volunteering with PVFC since 1973. Over his 53 years of volunteer service, he has held numerous leadership roles with us, including Captain. He was inducted into the BCVFA Hall of Fame in 2019.

Even after decades of service, Rickie remains one of our most active members and top emergency responders, logging an incredible 1,000+ responses in 2025 alone.

Please join us in congratulating Rickie on this well-deserved honor and thanking him for his lifetime of dedication to the Pikesville community! 🧑‍🚒👏
