With dry conditions, gusty winds, and low humidity, the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for 66 counties in Minnesota for today, April 20, until 8 p.m.

While the Red Flag warning is in effect:
🚫Don’t burn brush and yard debris! Escaped fire from debris burning is the #1 cause of wildfires in Minnesota.
☑️Check any recent burning, including campfires, to ensure the fire is out COLD!
⚠️Campfires are strongly discouraged during the Red Flag.
‼️Be safe with ANY heat source that could cause a spark.

In these conditions, any spark could easily cause a wildfire that spreads quickly. Remember, you can prevent wildfires by following prevention tips! If you see a wildfire, get to a safe location and call 911 right away.

Red Flag Warnings are evolving events. For more information, visit www.weather.gov

🌬️Cooler temps don’t cancel fire danger. 🙅‍♀️

In the fall, plants dry out and leaves drop, adding extra fuel for wildfires. While fewer fires start this time of year, the ones that do can spread fast and burn hot. Falling leaves add continuous fuel to these fires making them challenging to put out.

Here’s how you can help prevent wildfires this fall:

✔️ Check burning restrictions and get your burning permit before burning large piles of vegetation.

🍂 Consider alternatives to burning leaves and needles, such as composting. Burning large piles of leaves and needles can create large flying embers that can ignite dry fuel nearby.

🚗 Park OHVs and vehicles on gravel or pavement. The hot exhausts can easily ignite tall, dry grass.

🔥 Keep campfires small and manageable. Always stay by the fire and put it out cold before you leave.

Conditions change quickly! Stay up to date with burning restrictions and fire danger at mndnr.gov/burnrestrictions

Training Together, Growing Stronger

On Monday, Pierz Fire and Rescue was honored to take part in a multi-scenario farm rescue training hosted by the Pierz, Sullivan Lake, MLMB, and Hart First Response Teams. It was an incredible evening of teamwork, learning, and real-life scenario practice alongside some truly dedicated first responders.

A huge thank you to Chad Thesing for organizing this event, and to Darrell and Amy Saehr for graciously letting us use their farm and equipment—it made the training all the more realistic and valuable.

And a special shoutout to Dennis Stich for donating the chopper, which added a unique element to the day.

These kinds of trainings are what make us better, together. Thank you to everyone who made it possible!
