WATER VALVE WORK

City of Pierre water crews plan to replace valves at three intersections beginning Tuesday, Sept. 29:

• Monroe Street and Broadway Avenue
• Monroe Street and Cabot Street
• Broadway Avenue and Jackson Avenue

The projects are scheduled close together so crews can finish the work before the end of paving season. Work is weather dependent, and the schedule may change.

Although this is a South Dakota Department of Transportation project, we want to keep you informed about changes that may affect travel in Pierre. For the latest project updates, timelines and maps, visit https://dot.sd.gov/euclid.

The week of Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, the temporary pedestrian crossing at 5th Street and Euclid Avenue will move back to 4th Street and Euclid Avenue. Pedestrian signs will also be placed at 4th Street. Crossing guards will be present when school children are utilizing the intersection.

North of 5th Street traffic will also shift to a two-way configuration in the newly constructed southbound lanes to accommodate continued construction of the northbound lanes.

Erskine Street is closed between Monroe Avenue and Madison Avenue while City crews replace a fire hydrant and a section of water main.

The intersection of Erskine Street and Monroe Avenue remains open. The closure is expected to remain in place through Friday, Sept. 25.

City technology services should now be back up and operational.

Phone, email and internet services are expected to be functioning normally, and operations at the Solid Waste Facility should also be back to normal.

There are no new changes to report regarding the City of Pierre’s current technology outage. City staff continue to work through the issue, and we will provide additional information as it becomes available.

Latest Update – Solid Waste Facility

The outage is also impacting operations at the Solid Waste Facility. Due to the loss of internet service, the facility is currently unable to accept credit card payments, and the kiosk used to access the yard is not operational.

Customers with an access card or those paying by cash or check can use the scale to access the yard, tree disposal area and recycling area.

Franklin Street is closed from Van Buren Avenue to Jackson Avenue today, Sept. 23, while City crews replace a water service that supplies the sprinkler system at Devine Park.

The street is expected to reopen once crews complete the roadway.
