We had a Fire Prevention poster contest last week. All the students in Pierre competed in three different classes (Kindergarten-1st, 2nd-3rd, 4th-5th grades) for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place cash prizes. Here are some of the great entries and the artists.

We had the pleasure to visit Pierre schools on Wednesday for Fire Prevention. This year's theme is “Charge Into Fire Safety™. Safe Charging Is a Superpower”. We had a great time with all the kids and there was some good discussion about properly charging electronics. Thank you to all the schools (Jefferson, St. Joseph, For His Glory, Buchanan, Kennedy, PILC, and Beyond the Classroom) for allowing us some time with the students.

🚨 New Apparatus Alert! 🚨
We are excited to introduce our newly purchased Rescue Boat! This 26-foot Lake Assault Rescue Boat is a great addition to our department and will help us better serve our community on the Missouri River and surrounding waterways.
The new boat is equipped with:

🔥 Twin 200 HP Mercury outboards providing the power and maneuverability needed for rescue operations
💦 Deck gun capable of pumping water for fire suppression and other operations
🤿 GREAT for diving operations
🚨 Increased capacity and capability for water rescue, emergency response, and recovery operations

This boat will be most definitely be an asset to the Pierre Fire Department and our response on the water for years to come. We want to extend a huge THANK YOU to the City of Pierre and our community for your continued support, trust, and appreciation of the work our firefighters and rescuers do. Your support allows us to continue investing in the equipment, technology, and training necessary to protect our community.
We are proud to serve Pierre and the surrounding area — and we're excited to put this new Rescue Boat to work!

🚒 Another great night of training for the Pierre Rescue Squad!

Last night, our team worked through two hands-on training stations focused on technical rescue skills that could make a critical difference during an emergency.

🪢 Station 1 – Rope Rescue:
Members practiced the ladder hinge method, an emergency rope rescue technique used by firefighters to safely lower a patient on a backboard from an elevated window, roof, or other elevated location to the ground.

💨 Station 2 – Air Lifting:
Members trained with pneumatic air-lifting bags, which are used to safely lift heavy loads such as collapsed debris, vehicles, or other equipment. For this scenario, the team simulated lifting a 1,500 lb implement tire off of a victim!

These hands-on scenarios allow our members to build confidence, sharpen their technical rescue skills, and prepare for the unexpected! 💪🚒

We were proud to partner with Pierre School District and other First Responders for a 9/11 opening tribute at last Fridays football game. Thanks to the school district for organizing the event and paying tribute to those that lost their lives and loved ones.
