South Dakota Governor's Office of Economic Development The South Dakota Governor's Office of Economic Development works to create jobs and support companies

The GOED works to expand primary job opportunities for all South Dakotans. We strive to retain and expand existing businesses, foster new businesses, facilitate business succession and recruit out-of-state businesses. Recruitment efforts are focused on several key industries; Advanced Manufacturing; Bioscience; Value-Added Agriculture, Precision Agriculture, and Livestock Development to name a few

. The office works closely with community economic development corporations to expand and diversify the state’s industry and economy. Additionally, the GOED administers a variety of financing opportunities available to new and existing businesses.

Today, the South Dakota Board of Economic Development approved investments that will support business growth, strengthen infrastructure, and drive long-term economic development across the state.

Highlights include:

• $7.5 million REDI loan to support development of a new business park in Rapid City

• $500,000 LIIP grant for transportation improvements supporting Dakota Ethanol's expansion in Lake County

• Up to $29.9 million through the Reinvestment Payment Program to support Smithfield's estimated $1.29 billion investment in a new Sioux Falls facility, retaining more than 3,100 jobs

These projects will help strengthen South Dakota's economy, support key industries, and create opportunities for future growth.

This week, Commissioner Even joined Governor Larry Rhoden, USDA leadership, and agriculture stakeholders from across South Dakota for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Leadership Roundtable hosted by South Dakota Trade.

The discussion focused on key issues impacting producers, processors, and rural communities, including food safety, international trade, market access, research, and the future of agricultural production.

Agriculture remains a cornerstone of South Dakota's economy, and conversations like these help ensure our producers and businesses remain competitive in a rapidly evolving global marketplace.
