If you are Native American, tribally enrolled, or eligible for Indian Health Services, the new community engagement requirements and every 6 month renewals do not apply.

Be sure to inform DSS when you apply or renew so your information stays accurate.

Being a kinship caregiver can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also come with challenges. You don't have to navigate it alone.

Kinship South Dakota provides support, information, referrals and resources to help kinship caregivers create safe, stable and nurturing homes for the children and youth in their care.

Kinship caregivers may be grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, family friends, neighbors or other caring adults.

Children do best when they know who they are, where they come from, and who belongs in their circle.

When children cannot safely remain with their parents, being cared for by relatives, extended family, or other people they already know and trust can help keep those important connections strong.

That’s where DSS/CPS Kinship Specialists come in. They work to identify and locate relatives and other important people in a child’s life who may be able to provide care and support.

In this video, lead Kinship Specialist Rachael shares more about the work she does to help children stay connected to their families and communities.

Last week, approximately 100 DSS leaders came together for our annual Leadership event.

The day was an opportunity to celebrate our accomplishments, connect with colleagues from across the department, share ideas and have open conversations about the work ahead.

One of the highlights was an open dialogue with our Executive Team, where leaders could ask questions, hear directly from leadership and talk about the priorities shaping DSS in the year ahead.

We’re grateful for the time, ideas and leadership our staff bring to DSS every day as we work together to support South Dakotans.
