On Tuesday evening the Piermont Fire Department was dispatched to an oil spill in the creek. We deployed booms to mitigate the hazard. When we went to remove the booms this afternoon, one end was detached. A local vessel decided not to wait for its removal and ran it over. We take Hazardous Materials situations very seriously. Especially one that effects one of the last salt marshes in the US. The boom did its job. If this was an on going spill that needed additional tide cycles for proper mitigation, it could have become an issue, causing more damage to our ecosystem. When we have a situation like this, and have to mitigate a hazard by blocking off areas of the creek. Please dont take it upon yourself to to remove any of the mitigation appliances we deploy. What many dont realize, the fire department genetates spill number through the DEC. They usually send a representative to monitor the progress of the mitigation process. If they seen anyone tampering with any mitigation apparatus, it would not end well. Even thought it may be a slight inconvenience, Please let us do the required monitoring, containmen and abatement. Tonight the Piermont Fire Department was dispatched to an oil leak in the creek off Paradise Ave. Divers deployed booms to mitigate the hazard to the environment.

We love that people want to visit our Village and dine in our restaurants and shop in our stores. But please be clear we will not tolerate parking in fire zones. That means blocking fire hydrants, fire lanes or any fire department connection! Your vehicle will be towed. These areas are zoned off for the publics safety. Thank you for your cooperation.

Congratulations to Chief Reece McNichol and the members of Piermont Fire Department for their hard work. The members walked away with Best Appearing Ladder and 2nd Place Dress Uniform. A special thanks to our brothers from Nyack FD for helping us get rooms.
