On August 16, 2026, Piedmont Police officers began investigating multiple auto burglaries that occurred during the early morning hours. Preliminary information indicated that a similar suspect vehicle may have been associated with several of the incidents.

At approximately 5:56 a.m., Sgt. Foster conducted a traffic stop on a similar vehicle in the area where the burglaries had occurred. During the stop, Sgt. Foster conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and located two fi****ms concealed inside the engine compartment.

The driver, a convicted felon prohibited from possessing fi****ms, was arrested and booked at Santa Rita Jail on multiple felony charges.

This arrest highlights the importance of effective preliminary investigations and proactive police work.

The Piedmont Police Department remains committed to protecting our community.

The auto burglary investigations remain ongoing.

We made some changes to traffic circulation in the Civic Center over the summer.

As we prepare for the start of school on Monday, Chief Shavies asks everyone traveling through the area to familiarize yourself with the changes, review routes, and allow extra travel time next week as families adjust to the transition.

Traffic patterns have changed in the Civic Center - review your routes before school starts next week.

Bonita between Vista and Oakland is now *one-way towards Oakland Avenue*. This means:

🚫 Drivers can no longer turn onto Bonita from Oakland
⚠️ The Havens drop-off zone on Bonita has been eliminated

These changes will most directly impact Havens families, but everyone traveling through the Civic Center should plan ahead. Before the first day of school:

✅ Review your usual arrival and departure route
✅ Consider whether another route may work better
✅ Allow extra travel time during the first week

Havens families should use Highland Avenue for drop-off and pick-up whenever possible. Secondary zones remain available on Oakland and Vista Avenues.

Piedmont Police will station staff at Bonita and Oakland during the first week of school to assist drivers during the transition.
