Our hearts remain heavy in the aftermath of the tragic vehicle collision on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, which claimed the lives of Soren Dixon, Jack Nelson, and Krysta Tsukahara. We are grateful for the community's incredible support over the past week.

We continue to extend our thoughts to the fourth victim of the collision, who remains hospitalized in stable condition. As they begin their recovery journey, we encourage continued compassion and respect for their privacy.

The Dixon, Nelson, and Tsukahara families have requested privacy as they navigate this time of immense grief. We urge everyone to honor this request. Let us continue to support them by respecting their space and showing kindness in our actions.

You can read the complete statements from the families at https://piedmont.ca.gov/FamilyStatements

For media inquiries regarding the collision or the condition of the survivor, please contact Captain Chris Monahan at [email protected].

Thank you, PPD. Thank you to our community.

East Bay Children's Book Project (EBCBP)

Do you have children's and teen books to pass on? The mission of East Bay Children's Book Project (EBCBP) is to help build literacy by putting books into the hands of children who have little or no access to them. Working through individuals and organizations who help children in need, the organization has given out more than two million free books since opening their doors in May 2005.

What: new and gently used children’s books, including board books through high school books. Books should be clean with no marks or stains. No textbooks, religious books, encyclopedias, magazines, adult books, or library discards.

Monetary donations can be accepted by mail at 2501 Harrison St., Oakland, CA 94612 or online at https://lnkd.in/gyn-rHCW

When/Where:
- Turkey Trot bib pick up on Wed Nov 27 3-6pm at Veterans' Hall,
- Piedmont Middle School library in the EBCBP box during school hours 8:40-2:40
- EBCBP, 2501 Harrison St., Oakland (across from Whole Foods) Tuesdays 3:30-5:30pm and 1st Sat of month (Dec 7). Look for the purple door facing Harrison St at the "Keep Clear" area of road.

Why: Too many children in the Bay Area live in homes without books, and attend schools and programs where books are in short supply. Encouraging reading is not enough when families and schools do not have books. Books are given directly to children in need by teachers, social workers, health care professionals, community outreach groups, housing authority employees, and police officers. Some are used by schools, daycare and community centers, homeless shelters, and hospitals to create libraries at their sites.

Today we welcomed back teachers and staff with a back-to-school lunch provided by Arthur Mac's Tap & Snack and Mulberry's Market. These wonderful Piedmont-owned businesses provided delicious pizza, salad, and snacks as PUSD staff prepared for school to start. Thank you and for supporting our community!
