⚡️ Day 24 at Pickens Middle School! ⚡️

This morning, students had the opportunity to attend the first official STORM meeting of the year! 🌩️

Next up was our morning meeting, complete with our favorite tradition—the wheel spin for House points! 🖤❤️💚💙 Then, it was time for a little college football fun! 🏈 After the wheel spin, Coach Rob, Mr. Brezeale, and Mr. Scott picked the college teams they think will come out on top this weekend from a selection of games. We’ll have to wait and see who made the best picks! 👀🏆

Then, we were off to the classrooms! 📚✏️ Even though it was the Friday before a long weekend, our Sparks were hard at work, engaged in learning all day long! 💙❤️

⚡️ Day 23 at Pickens Middle School! ⚡️

Today was all about SPARK KINDNESS! 💙❤️⚡️ We enjoyed spending time with our students and their families at our Spark Kindness Literacy Night!

Families worked together to complete a task sheet with activities in our ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies classrooms. 📚🔬➗✨ There were even goldfish around the school with questions about Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper!

After completing the activities, everyone gathered in the cafeteria to share a meal together while our Instructional Coach/Title I Facilitator, Mrs. Erin Hunter, shared some important information with our families. ❤️

A HUGE thank you to everyone who joined us tonight! We are so grateful for our amazing students, families, and staff who helped make this evening so special. What a Sparktastic way to spend the evening! ⚡️📚💙❤️

SDPC is beginning the search for our next superintendent.

Following 13 years of leadership, Superintendent Dr. Danny Merck will conclude his service at the end of the 2026–2027 school year. With advance planning, the Board of Trustees is beginning the search process now to support a thoughtful and seamless transition.

The search will be guided by our Innovate ’28 Strategic Plan and shaped by input from the people who know and care about SDPC — our students, employees, families, and Pickens County community.

🗣️ Your voice matters.

The Board of Trustees, in partnership with the South Carolina School Boards Association, is gathering community input to help identify the qualities, experience, and leadership priorities that should guide the search for SDPC’s next superintendent.

The first opportunity to share your input:

⚡️ Day 22 at Pickens Middle School! ⚡️

There’s always something exciting happening at Pickens Middle! 💙❤️ Today, during our morning assembly, our volleyball team shared one of their cheers with our Sparks—and they carried that energy into tonight’s game! 📣🏐 Congratulations to our volleyball team on their 3–1 victory over the Red Devils! 🎉⚡️

📚 Learning Highlight: Our 8th grade ELA students have been studying The Outsiders, and today they put their annotation skills to work with Robert Frost’s poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay,” which is featured in one of the novel’s chapters. We love seeing our Sparks engage deeply with literature! 📖✨

🌟 Tomorrow is the night! We can’t wait to welcome our students and their families to Spark Kindness Literacy Night tomorrow, September 3, from 5:30–7:00 PM! We’re looking forward to an evening filled with literacy, kindness, and fun! 📚💙

📅 Reminder: There will be NO SCHOOL on Monday, September 7, in honor of Labor Day.

Today was a busy day at Pickens Middle! 📚✨ In addition to capturing lots of smiles and memories with yearbook pictures throughout the day 📸, our Sparks were busy experiencing some amazing hands-on learning opportunities in the classroom! 🔬🎨🧪

While our students were learning, our teachers were learning, too! Our staff had the opportunity to participate in SC RISE Co-Teaching Training and continue growing their skills to better support our students and future teachers. 👩‍🏫📖

From hands-on learning to professional learning, today was full of opportunities to learn, grow, and Spark something great! 💙⚡️❤️

We had another great day of learning and opportunities for our Sparks! 📚✨ Today, students met with their grade-level House groups to sign up for clubs—we can’t wait to see all the ways our students get involved this year! 🏠💙❤️

We started Day 19 with the STORM Pancake Breakfast 🥞☀️, followed by our morning assembly which, of course, included spinning the wheel for House points! 🎡🏆

Other highlights from today include some amazing learning experiences happening in our classrooms 📚✨. Then, we ended the week with our House Assembly where our House leaders took the lead and helped make it a fun and memorable way to wrap up the week! 🏠⚡️

The excitement continued throughout the day as our Sparks worked hard and made learning happen; featured are lessons in ELA and science. 📚🔬

Today’s highlights also include a showcase of student artwork 🎨, a group photo of our amazing Student Ambassadors, and plenty of action from tonight’s volleyball scrimmage! 🏐🔥
