🇺🇸 ROAD TO INDEPENDENCE: 250 YEARS AGO TODAY 🇺🇸

On June 12, 1776, Virginia adopted the Virginia Declaration of Rights, a groundbreaking document affirming that all people possess inherent rights, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Written primarily by George Mason, this declaration became one of the most influential documents of the American Revolution. Its principles would later inspire both the Declaration of Independence and the United States Bill of Rights.

As we celebrate the journey toward American independence, we honor the enduring ideals of freedom and individual rights that continue to guide our nation today.

🇺🇸 ROAD TO INDEPENDENCE: 250 YEARS AGO TODAY 🇺🇸

On June 11, 1776, the Continental Congress appointed a Committee of Five to draft a declaration explaining why the American colonies sought independence from Great Britain.

The committee included:
• Thomas Jefferson
• John Adams
• Benjamin Franklin
• Roger Sherman
• Robert R. Livingston

Thomas Jefferson was chosen to prepare the first draft. His words would become the foundation of the Declaration of Independence and help define the ideals upon which our nation was built.

As we approach America’s 250th Anniversary, we reflect on the vision and determination of those who helped establish the United States of America.
