Orangewood School

Orangewood School Engaged in Excellence - Orangewood School is a K-8 school committed to close communication among staff, parents, students and community.

Orangewood School’s curriculum is fully aligned with State standards. Orangewood provides art, music and PE for all grade levels. There is a school-wide focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). Fine arts and sciences are strongly supported and integrated throughout our curriculum. Orangewood School starts pupils on their exciting learning journey in kindergarten with all its adve

ntures, discoveries, challenges, achievements and advantages for life. Rooted in community, students and their families quickly get to know each other and establish friendships that will last a lifetime. This exciting journey continues through each grade level where students learn to become responsible, dependable citizens and valued members of a greater community. We believe in students working at their ability level. Presently, students who are now in 8th grade are participating in advanced placement classes at the high school. High school credit is awarded, giving them a jump start toward the next step of their educational journey. Orangewood staff enjoys meeting students and families at the many events that take place throughout the year. We have an open door policy and encourage school and classroom visits as part of the process of getting to know each of our families. We hope to work with every family to make the most of each child’s talents and potential. School tours and visits are part of our everyday life. We believe that building children’s confidence enables them to flourish and enjoy learning. With this in mind, we strive to offer many opportunities for students both through regular daytime academic experiences and extended extracurricular activities in order to maximize the potential of each and every child. We invite you to visit our school and discover first-hand the opportunities that await your child.

The Orangewood Way: Handle Hard Better

At Orangewood Elementary, our theme this year is Handle Hard Better, inspired by Duke Women’s Basketball Coach Kara Lawson’s powerful message that challenges are a part of life, and that is okay. Difficult moments are not something to fear; they are opportunities to learn, grow, and become stronger.

Our goal is not to remove every challenge our students face. Instead, we want to help them develop the skills, confidence, and resilience needed to overcome obstacles. Whether a student is solving a difficult math problem, working through a disagreement with a friend, learning something new, or handling disappointment, each challenge provides a chance to improve and grow.

Throughout the school year, students will be encouraged to:
-Approach challenges with a positive and determined mindset.
-Continue working hard when tasks become difficult.
-View mistakes as opportunities to learn and improve.
-Develop resilience, responsibility, and self-confidence.
-Encourage and support others as they face challenges.

Families play an important role in building this mindset at home. When your child experiences difficulty, encourage them to keep trying, seek help when needed, and focus on growth rather than perfection. Recognizing effort, perseverance, and problem-solving helps children build the confidence they need to face future challenges.

Together, we can teach our students that challenges are not barriers to success. They are opportunities to become stronger. By embracing The Orangewood Way, we will help every Cougar become a resilient learner who faces challenges with courage, determination, and pride.
