Phoenix Rescue Mission is a Christ-centered nonprofit serving our Valley neighbors through three core programs:

Street Outreach: Meeting neighbors where they are with water, hygiene items, heat relief, and connections to housing and recovery programs. Residential Recovery: Offering short-term crisis care and long-term programs that address the root causes of addiction and homelessness through cou

nseling, discipleship, workforce development, and life-skills training. Food Distribution: Providing groceries, hygiene items, and case management through the Hope for Hunger Food Bank, mobile pantries, and community markets to people and families in need.

We’re gearing up for tomorrow’s first Mobile Pantry of the month, bringing free groceries and pantry staples directly into communities across the Valley!

September is Hunger Action Month, a time to recognize the impact of hunger in our communities and the work happening every day to help families put food on the table.

At Phoenix Rescue Mission, food distribution reaches neighbors across the Valley in several ways:

🥫 Hope for Hunger Food Bank: Open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon in Glendale, Hope for Hunger provides nutritious food and emergency food assistance to more than 250 households each day, along with access to additional support and services.

🚚 Mobile Pantries: Our four Mobile Pantry locations in Laveen, Phoenix, Surprise and South Scottsdale bring food and household essentials directly into communities across the Valley. Pantries are held throughout the month, helping make food assistance more accessible to families closer to where they live.

🤝 Community Partnerships: Our longstanding partnership with St. Mary’s Food Bank helps strengthen these efforts and expand access to food for families across our community. Together with St. Mary’s and other community partners, we’re able to reach more neighbors with food and additional support when they need it most.

Last year, for the second year in a row, heat-related deaths in Maricopa County went down, from 608 deaths in 2024 to 430 in 2025.

In that same year, our Street Outreach team rescued 1,363 neighbors from the streets, a 30.6% increase from the year before.

We believe these numbers reflect what’s possible when our community comes together. Because of our partners, we’re reaching more neighbors, providing critical heat relief, and helping save lives across the Valley. 🙏

During the extreme heat, heat relief sites can provide more than a place to get out of the sun. They can also create an opportunity for our Street Outreach team to connect with neighbors who need additional support.

That’s where our team connected with Elena and her 12-year-old daughter. After losing her job, Elena had found herself without housing again and was trying to determine what came next. She shared that she had a job interview the following day, but transportation was a barrier.

Our team provided a bus pass to help Elena get to the interview while also helping connect her and her daughter with a safe, temporary place to stay. Soon after, Elena received the good news that she had been offered the job.

Today, Elena is working full time and has a stable place to call home with her daughter.

Through Code:Red, our Street Outreach team is out every day connecting with neighbors like Elena, providing relief from the heat and helping them take the next step toward stability. 🙏

Each story is unique, but every baptism is a powerful reminder that God is still at work, bringing hope, healing, and new life.

Did you know August is Summer Sun Safety Month? ☀️

For our neighbors living on the streets, long days in the Arizona sun can take a toll. Our Street Outreach team carries Hope Tote hygiene kits filled with practical items that can provide protection and relief from the heat.

Cold water and electrolyte packets help with hydration. Sunscreen helps protect exposed skin from the sun, while clean socks provide a layer of protection for feet from hot pavement.

These simple items help our team meet immediate needs while creating opportunities for conversation, connection and care.

This Saturday, you can help provide life-saving heat relief across the Valley with something as simple as a car wash.

Visit any of the five participating Cobblestone Auto Spa locations, and $1 from every car wash will be donated to Phoenix Rescue Mission's Code:Red Summer Heat Relief Campaign.
