Pride is about showing up for yourself, your community, and the next generation. At BBBS, we are committed to showing up with programs that give all youth access to mentorship, opportunities to grow, and places to belong. From the first match meeting to each milestone along the way, our mentors are walking beside young people as they build a future full of pride and possibility.

Last night, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona celebrated an incredible milestone as we honored our graduating Littles and the mentors, families, and supporters who helped them reach this moment. 💙🎓

A highlight of the evening was hearing from Dr. Judy R. Robles, whose powerful story of perseverance, resilience, and belief in young people deeply resonated with everyone in the room. Her message was a meaningful reminder that challenges do not define us, our determination, and the people who support us do.

We are also incredibly grateful to The Burton Family Foundation, whose generous support helped make this celebration possible. Their investment in young people and belief in the power of mentorship continues to create opportunities for our Littles to dream bigger and achieve more.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating the Class of 2026. The evening was a powerful reminder of what is possible when young people are surrounded by caring mentors, supportive families, and a community that believes in their future.

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Linda Searfoss on May 26, 2026. With her passing, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona has lost a founding leader whose vision, dedication, and passion helped shape the organization into what it is today.

Linda was an incredibly dynamic woman who was named Executive Director of Big Sisters of Arizona in 1972. In 1986, Valley Big Brothers merged with the Big Sisters agency, and Linda was selected to serve as Executive Director of the newly formed Valley Big Brothers Big Sisters, now known as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona, where she led until 2003.

Under her 31 years of leadership, the agency grew to become one of the largest Big Brothers Big Sisters organizations in the country. Her unwavering commitment to mentorship and youth advocacy impacted thousands of young people, families, volunteers, staff members, and supporters throughout Central Arizona and beyond.

Linda’s legacy extends far beyond organizational growth. She believed deeply in the power of relationships, the importance of investing in young people, and the ability of one caring adult to change a child’s life forever. Her leadership established a foundation that continues to guide and inspire our mission today.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Linda’s family, friends, former colleagues, and the many individuals whose lives she touched throughout her extraordinary career.

This fall, we will gather as a community to celebrate Linda’s remarkable life and enduring legacy. Additional details regarding a memorial and legacy event will be shared in the coming months.

We honor Linda by continuing the work she cared for so deeply and by carrying forward the mission she helped build for future generations.

At Big Brothers Big Sisters, we believe every child deserves someone in their corner who sees their strength, hears their voice, and helps them grow. We stand with the LGBTQ+ community, working to expand access to mentorship for all youth. When young people feel like they truly belong, they start to see just how far their potential can take them.

One in six young people between the ages of 6 and 17 experience a mental health disorder annually. Half of all cases of mental illness develop by age 14, and 75% of cases develop by age 24. In recognition of Month, we pledge to do our part in increasing public awareness, reducing stigma, and advocating for greater access to mental healthcare.
