Arizona Veterans Shine at Adaptive Sports and Arts - U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs National Veterans Golden Age Games

Arizona was proudly represented by 36 dedicated Veterans—including 12 women and 13 first-time competitors—at the 2026 National Veterans Golden Age Games (NVGAG) held in Tampa, Fla. This inspiring annual event brought together over 1,300 military Veterans, ages 55 and older, to compete in 22 different sports over a week of camaraderie, empowerment, and healthy competition.

The NVGAG is more than just athletic achievement—it’s about staying active, building friendships, and discovering new passions. Arizona’s participants exemplified the spirit of resilience, teamwork, and determination! What’s their motto? Fitness for Life!

Are you interested in joining the excitement? Training and preparation for these adaptive sports take place year-round through Recreation Therapy Outpatient Adaptive Sports. Veterans can get involved by connecting with their primary care provider to receive a consult for an evaluation of your needs and confirming you are medically stable to participate in physical activity. Monthly meetings are available to help with details, preparation, and the registration process, ensuring you have all the support you need.
