"Kelvin" the great horned owl hasn't had too much to drink!

Volunteer Patti just happened to snap a picture at the right second to catch a glimpse of the NICTITATING MEMBRANE

This is a transparent third eyelid that many animals have to protect and moisten their eyes while still allowing them to see.

And THIS is why the Liberty Wildlife Non-Eagle Feather Repository is so important.
The Federal Repository handles all eagle feathers and parts, but at Liberty Wildlife, our team handles the rest of the protected species under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

Native Americans are able to submit applications for feathers, parts or who carcasses and receive them free of charge so they can use them for religious and personal purposes.

This helps put a damper on the black market and the illegal killing of our protected wildlife!!!

Killing our national symbol to sell on the black market? Not on our watch.

A Washington man admitted to killing bald and golden eagles on and around the Flathead Indian Reservation in Montana and selling their feathers and body parts on the black market, part of an illegal operation that slaughtered thousands of birds. Since then, a coconspirator in Texas, who recently pleaded guilty to buying the illegally taken eagle parts, admitted to purchasing those parts and having them shipped to his home.

This wasn’t an accidental poaching incident. This was part of an organized, profit driven wildlife crime carried out over years by multiple conspirators.

And it was stopped by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service law enforcement and partners, who uncovered the crime, followed the money, and built the cases that brought these traffickers to justice.

This National Police Week, we recognize the law enforcement professionals who protect wildlife and safeguard the public every day.

This little ladder-backed woodpecker is a chatterbox!! But already showing how they are able to perch on the sides of trees - and buildings.

He'll get great care from our Orphan Care team and be released once he's fully grown!
