🏛️ From public safety to secure elections, the decisions made today will shape Maricopa County’s future.

The Greater Phoenix Chamber, alongside Maricopa County, hosted the 2nd Annual State of the County, bringing Valley business and government leaders together to discuss the County’s priorities and future.

Chair Kate Brophy McGee highlighted key initiatives spanning secure elections, a proposed $4 billion FY2027 budget, eviction prevention, expanded access to court ordered mental health treatment and tools to improve development planning and transparency. County Manager Jen Pokorski then joined her for a fireside chat on the challenges and opportunities shaping the region.

From Arizona’s preparations to the negotiations and investments ahead, our panel shared valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities that will shape our state’s long-term water security.

Engagement at Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC), where
she leads and oversees corporate and foundation partnerships, grant strategy, and
volunteer engagement. Since joining SARRC in 2019, she has helped secure
nearly $20 million in philanthropic support to expand programs and resources for
individuals with autism and their families. Lauren is Chair of Phoenix Valley Young
Professionals and previously served as President of the Association of Fundraising
Professionals – Greater Arizona Chapter. In the community, she advocates for
affordable housing, emerging fundraisers, women in leadership, and working
mothers.​

ATHENA Public Sector finalist Janice Palmer is Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and Public Policy at Helios Education Foundation and a respected education policy leader with more than 25 years of experience. Known as a trusted consensus builder, she has helped shape legislation and statewide initiatives that expand educational opportunity and improve student outcomes in Arizona and Florida.

Her leadership was instrumental in advancing Proposition 123, which increased funding for Arizona’s public schools. Janice also serves on numerous boards and advisory committees and has been appointed by multiple governors to lead Arizona’s Education Commission of the States delegation.​

ATHENA Private Sector finalist Karrin Taylor Robson is the Founder and President of Arizona Strategies and a longtime Arizona business leader and land-use expert. She has worked with national organizations representing major landowners and stakeholders across the country to advance balanced federal environmental law and policy and has forged numerous public-private partnerships, leveraging private-sector capital to deliver significant public benefits.

She has served on the boards of numerous government, community, and economic development organizations. Karrin is the proud mother of four, a grandmother, and the wife of Ed Robson. In the most recent chapter of her career, Karrin was a candidate for Governor of Arizona.​
