Today, on the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we stop to remember the 2,977 lives lost, the brave first responders who rushed toward danger, and the ordinary citizens who performed extraordinary acts of heroism.

We also honor the countless men and women across Arizona and our nation who answered the call to serve in the years that followed, standing on the frontlines to defend our freedom.

As time moves forward, our pledge remains unwavering: We Will Never Forget.

Today and every day, we stand united with our Arizona veteran community, their families, and all who carry the legacy of 9/11 in their hearts.

🚨 The VA is warning Veterans and spouses of a new scam going around targeting Veterans. 🚨 Official‑looking postcards are promoting a fake “Veterans Savings Program" advertising that Veterans and their spouses may qualify for up to $185 a month in additional Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits – including CHAMPVA, TRICARE, and dental coverage – regardless of their VA disability rating.

VA is urging Veterans to protect themselves by applying the following guidelines:
-Never share personal or financial information with unverified contacts.
-Don’t act on urgent requests from people you don't know. Legitimate VA communications will not pressure you to provide an immediate response or call you, unsolicited, for sensitive information.
-If you receive a suspicious postcard, email, text, or call, ignore them, and do NOT call the number provided or click on any links.
-Always verify the sender's identity, and when in doubt, contact VA directly at 1-800-MyVA411 (698-2411).

Today, on National Purple Heart Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who were wounded or made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedom.

Originally created by General George Washington in 1782 as the Badge of Military Merit, the Purple Heart is our nation's oldest military decoration. It is a medal no service member asks to receive, but one that carries the immense weight of selfless sacrifice.

To all the Purple Heart recipients we thank you for your courage and dedication.

Honoring a hero? If you have a friend, family member, or loved one who earned the Purple Heart, please leave their name, service branch, or story in the comments below so we can honor them together today.

We wanted to take a moment to honor Tony Becerra, a recreational therapist at our Yuma Veterans Home, for being given the Above and Beyond award at the Arizona Health Care Association (AHCA) annual convention for his heroic actions. Earlier this year, Tony helped save the life of a fellow staff member who experienced a major health episode by performing CPR until paramedics could arrive.

Tony exemplifies the core values our agency prides itself on: selflessness, care, and excellence. Congratulations Tony, and thank you for your dedication and support to this agency and to our Veterans!
