“The statistical demands of the drug war and the grants that come from the federal government --- all they do is incentivize our local police to chase drugs and chase seizures so they can supplement their budgets," Downing said. "We call that 'policing for profit.'”

- Stephen Downing, former captain of detectives in the LAPD

Thanks to the drug war, police have much more incentive to go after drug crimes than more heinous crimes.

Ma*****na legalized and the world didn't melt down. Actually, nothing changed. Everyone went on with their life as normal (smokers and non-smokers alike), but Washington will now save millions per year on prison costs, make millions on new tax revenue and we have collectively made a huge humans rights leap towards removing the US from the title of highest per capita imprisonment rate. Oh yeah, and the drug cartels are going to take a huge hit as more and more of the ma*****na that is grown in the US will create jobs and income for people in the US. Maybe we should look for more pragmatic solutions all across the country as prohibition slowly dies!

Day 1 of legalized ma*****na passed with barely a ripple in the South Sound.

Dear President Obama,

You smoked ma*****na regularly at one point in your life and you grew up to be President. It's time you ask yourself what would have happened if you had been one of the unlucky individuals that did the same, but were arrested for a vicitimless "crime". Could you have still become President? Or would your life have been changed forever? It's time we stop wasting so many tax dollars and destroying so many lives on the failed war on drugs. It's time you listen to majority of Americans that are demanding a change to our antiquated policies.

Enforcing ma*****na prohibition costs the US $7.7 billion a year. We also lose over $6 billion a year in taxable revenue by forcing users to purchase ma*****na on the black market. So, legalizing and taxing ma*****na would instantly make the US over $13 billion per year. Maybe, we are asking the wrong questions of those that wish to continue this archaic and very costly policy. Why does the prohibition of ma*****na justify wasting this much money year after year?

Your plans to celebrate 4/20 this Friday could actually make the government some money, if only such activities were legal. That’s according to a bunch of economists, and some prominent ones too.

One day, people will look back on the prohibition of ma*****na and laugh at how stupid we were. More studies like this and it won't be long.

A government-sponsored study published this month in The Open Neurology Journal concludes that ma*****na provides much-needed relief to some chronic pain sufferers and that more clinical trials are desperately needed, utterly destroying the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency’s (DEA) classification of the ...

Let's start a twitter and facebook campaign to continue to make this clear to the White House. Nearly 3/4 of Americans think that the government should stop wasting limited federal tax dollars "cracking down" on states with legal medical ma*****na. Stop by the White House page or tweet your opinion on the matter. They cannot ignore the vast majority of this country for much longer.

A poll conducted earlier this month by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research on behalf of the Ma*****na Policy Project finds that 76 percent of Americans want President Barack Obama to end his crackdown on medical ma*****na in states where medicinal use of the plant is legal. According to MPP's releas...
