May the 4th be with those who answer the call every single day.

On Star Wars Day and Firefighter Appreciation Day, we’re recognizing those who don’t need a galaxy far, far away… just a call for help. From structure fires to medical emergencies, Phoenix firefighters show up ready, no matter the mission.

A fire this size takes all of us.

Phoenix Fire crews are in Buckeye supporting partner agencies on the Hazen Fire, both on the ground and in the air. Our wildland crews remain actively engaged, while our UAS team deployed multiple drones for over 10 hours over the weekend, delivering real-time aerial intelligence to assist crews through our automatic aid system.

Incidents like this are complex and fast-moving, requiring seamless coordination across agencies and jurisdictions. It’s how we work together to help protect lives, property, and our communities.

Residents across the Valley may notice smoke in the coming days. For continuous updates, please follow City Of Buckeye Fire Department and Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management

Behind every wildland fire response is a coordinated effort that crosses agencies, jurisdictions, and specialties.

Today’s wildfire safety media event focused on strengthening those connections, because when we can seamlessly work together, our community is safer.

🚁 Public safety is evolving—fast.

Phoenix Fire helped lead the DroneSense Innovation Summit, showcasing how drones are improving response, awareness, and outcomes on every call.

“This was about more than hardware. It was about the mission.” – Capt. Kenny Overton

Drones are redefining emergency response. Fly safe this Drone Safety Day.

When seconds matter, training like this makes the difference.

Phoenix Fire crews partnered with Valleywise Health for a high-intensity scenario: a helicopter crash landing on the helipad.

Four patients. Aircraft on fire. Rapid extrication.

Realistic training that prepares us for the unexpected, so when the call comes in, we’re ready.

Technical rescue crews were dispatched around 2:00pm to Cholla Trailhead for reports of an injured hiker.

Crews were able to make access to the hiker who was about half way up Cholla Trailhead and evaluate him. The hiker sustained a lower leg injury and couldn’t continue down the trail. Fire crews utilized Firebird10 to hoist the hiker off the mountain safely.

The hiker was then reevaluated and offered transport to the hospital. The patient refused. All crews are currently hiking off the mountain and there are no reported injuries.

They're the calm voices behind the scenes, but they're also the ones who help save lives when seconds matter most. All from a remote headset without any visual aide.

Assistant Chief Jeff Schripsema and all of us thank you!

Today we remember K9 Merlyn, a proud member of , Arizona Search Dogs, and AZ‑TF1. From wildfire deployments to local search missions, Merlyn spent his life serving others with quiet confidence and unwavering focus. More than a working dog, he was an ambassador for PFD and a gentle presence for everyone he met.

Thank you for your dedication, Merlyn. Rest easy, good boy. 🐾❤️
