🔦 Can you see when there is NO light? Our first graders investigated—and discovered the answer: No! 🌑

Students collaborated to create a small-scale model of their classroom, then used opaque materials to block out all the light. Through hands-on exploration, teamwork, and lots of curious thinking, they saw firsthand just how important light is for us to see! 💡👀

🔎 4th Grade Historians at Work! 📚

Our 4th graders have been busy becoming historians and Social Studies detectives! 🕵️‍♀️🕵️‍♂️

Students kicked off their learning by bringing in personal artifacts, making observations, asking thoughtful questions, and learning more about one another. They also explored the fascinating history of the Hamilton Fountain in New York City, where children once brought their goldfish for a “summer vacation.” 🐠 Students then put their creativity to work, imagining and writing about their own goldfish’s dream vacation!

This week, our historians turned their attention to timelines and chronological order. Students worked together to arrange major events in sequence and are now applying those skills by creating personal timelines featuring important moments from their own lives.

We love seeing our 4th graders investigate, collaborate, and bring history to life! ❤️📸DVUSD

We are so close to hitting our numbers for our baseball & softball teams...we just need a few more players. If you are interested, please get your paperwork in ASAP. If you need to get your child's physical, etc., please go in and register them in Register My Athlete so that we know you are working on it. Please consider coming out as our teams have so much fun!!

Softball tryouts will start this coming Monday, Aug 17, after school.

Baseball tryouts are tentatively scheduled for the following Monday, Aug 24.

Congratulations to our Kindergarten Teacher the fabulous Mrs. Tapp for being recognized as our Firebird of the Month!

From day one, she has been dedicated to teaching our youngest Firebirds the routines, expectations, and foundational skills they need to be successful in kindergarten. Her commitment to building strong foundations sets our students up for success and reflects what makes Gavilan Peak such a special place. Thank you for everything you do for our students and school community!
