⚠️πŸ₯΅β›ˆοΈ The hottest heat indices so far this year are expected today, topping out near 100Β° this afternoon in most areas. Near record breaking highs in the low to mid 90s. A Heat Advisory remains in effect through Friday for portions of the area, as similarly hot and humid conditions are expected again on Friday.

Similar to Wednesday, scattered storms are forecast to develop late afternoon/evening. However the risk of severe storms will be greater today, with damaging winds as the main threat.

There have been local reports of thefts from unlocked vehicles in both Pohatcong Township and surrounding jurisdictions during the past night. Please be sure to take the following steps to help prevent this:

πŸ”‘ Lock your doors
πŸ”‘ Remove or hide all belongings

To ensure these steps are taken, make them part of your nightly routine. As always, be sure to report any suspicious activity you may observe.

🚨 POWER OUTAGES & ROAD CLOSURES 🚨

***UPDATE:
All previously closed roads are now open. However, numerous power outages are still affecting areas of the township.

Due to the recent storm, multiple areas throughout Pohatcong Township are currently experiencing power outages. Utility crews have been notified and are responding to the affected areas.

The following roadways are closed to through traffic:

πŸ”΄ Mountain Road
β€’ Closed between Cemetery Road and Pinchers Point Road
β€’ Roadway is impassable near 150 Mountain Road due to a downed tree on utility wires

πŸ”΄ River Road
β€’ Closed between Creek Road and Snyders Road
β€’ Roadway is impassable near 332 River Road due to a downed tree and electrical lines

πŸ”΄ Still Valley Road
β€’ Closed between Municipal Drive and CR 639
β€’ Downed electrical lines between residences 210 and 227 have made the roadway unsafe for travel

⚠️ Safety Reminder
Please avoid these areas and seek alternate routes whenever possible. If you encounter downed utility lines, stay well away from them and treat all wires as if they are energized. Immediately report any hazardous conditions to the appropriate authorities.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as crews work to restore power and clear roadways.

** SEVERE WEATHER RISK TODAY**

There has been an uptick in the severe potential for this afternoon. A cold front will pose a risk for severe weather this afternoon and evening, with a risk now across the entire state. Ahead of the front, there will be a lot of instability and wind shear. This will allow for the risk of multiple storm clusters and even some damaging wind segments to develop, especially with any prolonged sunshine tomorrow, allowing for decent instability. A few of these storms could also have hail up to quarter-sized or larger. The best risk is for cities such as Pittsburgh, State College, Harrisburg, and Allentown. I am watching the risk for a longer-lived wind segment, but confidence remains uncertain at the moment.

BEST TIMING: STAY TUNED FOR A CITY-BY-CITY TIMING OUTLOOK AT 9AM.

NOTE: The isolated/scattered coverage wording is for the severe weather outlook. While the strong storm coverage is only isolated and scattered, the chance of seeing rain or thunder is higher than the chance of experiencing severe weather.

(ZONE 2, RED): Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms are expected. The strongest storms may pack wind gusts of 60 - 70 mph with hail up to quarter-sized. A tornado is very unlikely. Non-severe impacts may include torrential downpours and lightning.

(ZONE 1, YELLOW): Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are expected. The strongest storms may pack wind gusts of 55 - 65 mph. A tornado is very unlikely and not expected. Non-severe impacts may include torrential downpours and lightning.

Keep in mind, severe weather does not impact every house or neighborhood. Unless it is a large outbreak, severe weather impacts will differ even across small areas. It is always good to be prepared by having multiple ways of receiving severe weather alerts and a shelter to take cover in when severe weather strikes.

🚨🚧Water Main Break🚧🚨

There has been a water main break in the Town of Phillipsburg on the border of Pohatcong Township. This is believed to impact water service to the Parkside area of Pohatcong Township. Due to the break, residents may experience discolored water as well as intermittent service disruptions while repairs are completed. Aqua New Jersey is aware of the issue and is working to fix it.
