Yesterday, we teamed up with the Firth Youth Center and the Phillipsburg School District to remind high school seniors that drinking and driving is never a good idea.

Students took on a pedal cart driving course while wearing drunk goggles — and let's just say, some discovered they probably shouldn't quit their day job for NASCAR.

All jokes aside, we're proud of these students for taking part and learning an important lesson: make smart choices, stay safe, and never drink and drive.

As temperatures continue to rise, we want to share an important reminder that could save a child's life.

Every year, children across the United States die from preventable vehicular heatstroke incidents. Many people assume these tragedies only occur when a child is intentionally left in a vehicle. The reality is that more than half of pediatric vehicular heatstroke deaths occur when a child is unknowingly left behind due to a change in routine, distraction, or a lapse in memory.

A vehicle can become dangerously hot in a matter of minutes, even on days that may not seem excessively warm. Cracking a window or parking in the shade does little to reduce the risk.

This week, we are sharing a five-part awareness campaign focused on a simple but critical message:

🔒 LOOK BEFORE YOU LOCK.

✔ Check your back seat every time you exit your vehicle.
✔ Place a purse, briefcase, phone, or other essential item in the rear seat as a reminder.
✔ Ask your childcare provider to call if your child does not arrive as expected.
✔ Never leave a child unattended in a vehicle, even for a minute.

We also encourage everyone to watch our heatstroke awareness demonstration video from many years ago on YouTube:

• NHTSA.gov

A simple check takes only seconds. Those few seconds could save a life.

Apparently stop signs were optional today. Unfortunately, two of them were disregarded in about three seconds. 🤦‍♂️

We regret to inform everyone that driving through parking spaces is not the secret trick to legally pass a stopped school bus.

🚨 Vehicle Burglary Awareness 🚨

There have been numerous reports of vehicle burglaries in our area, as well as in neighboring Pohatcong Township.

Many vehicle burglaries are crimes of opportunity. Unlocked doors, visible valuables, and keys left inside vehicles make it easier for criminals to target you.

Before you walk away from your vehicle:

🔒 Lock your doors
💰 Remove valuables from plain view
🔑 Take your keys and key fobs with you
🏠 Do not leave garage door openers visible
💡 Park in well-lit areas when possible

Please report suspicious activity immediately, especially people walking through driveways, looking into vehicles, pulling on door handles, or vehicles slowly circling neighborhoods late at night.

Do not wait until morning to report suspicious activity.

Today, we stopped in for one final at the Phillipsburg Primary School.

It's always great spending time with the students and ending the week with a few smiles, laughs, and fist bumps.

Thank you to the students and staff for the warm welcome. With only 4 school days left, we hope everyone finishes the year strong and gets ready for a safe and fun summer!
