Philipsburg Amateur Radio Association (PARA) PARA - The leading amateur radio organization serving Clearfield and Centre Counties, Pennsylvania. PARA owns and operates an APRS digi-peater near Philipsburg.

PARA owns and operates two 2-meter band repeaters and a 70-cm band repeater. These repeaters were paid for a built by the hams that operate them. PARA maintains an EchoLink node connection on the 146.430 repeater (+1 MHz offset, PL 173.8 Hz) which is located on Rattlesnake Mountain, Centre County. PARA members conduct VE Testing sessions which allowing local residents interested in becoming hams t

o take their FCC licensing test close to home. PARA operates Special Event Station W3P from the Philipsburg Heritage Days event in July. PARA is the organizing force behind the annual “Philipsburg Area Amateur Radio Picnic”. PARA members regularly assist with communications at public service events like the Moshannon Valley YMCA Mountain Bike Race and other events. PARA members receive by mail the quarterly newsletter “PARA Connections”. PARA is an ARRL Affiliated Club. And much more….

Just a quick heads up that the 444.625+ repeater, formerly K3EDD of Rockton Mountain, has been re-located to Kylertown PA (about 8 miles North of Philipsburg) and is carrying the PARA call sign W3PHB. The effective on-air time was 1:46PM local time on Sunday December 31, 2017. PL is 173.8Hz.

The D-STAR Repeater Operators of Western Pennsylvania are giving giving you the chance to win a new Icom ID-880H mobile dual band D-STAR capable rig. The contest runs from March 2 through August 24 2015. To enter the contest all you need to do is 1) reside within the ARRL's Western Pennsylvania Section, and 2) check into the Monday night WPA Section ARES D-STAR Net. Each week you check into the net counts as an additional entry into the contest. Complete details and rules are posted on the WPA ARES web site at www.wpaares.org.

This contest has been made possible by generous gifts from The Repeater Association (sponsor of the W3EXW D-STAR System in Allegheny County and sponsor of the WPA Section's REF063 reflector), the K3LR Operators (supporters of the K3AWS D-STAR System in Crawford County), The Westmoreland Emergency Amateur Radio Service (sponsor of the WC3PS D-STAR System in Westmoreland County) and the Philipsburg Amateur Radio Association (sponsors of the W3PHB D-STAR System in Clearfield County.)

A good time was had by all at the annual PARA Christmas Banquet on Friday December 12th. One special feature of the evening was the magic act presented by new PARA member John KC3DWP.

Once again the Philipsburg Elks Lode & Country Club was the venue for the annual Philipsburg Amateur Radio Association Christmas Banquet. The banquet was held on Friday December 12th and, unlike last year, the weather cooperated perfectly.
