Happy Flag Day, every year we teach first grade students about our flag, each student is given their own flag in a stand and an informative booklet. The students make their own 5-point star with just on cut. This is one of our favorite projects. Here are a few pictures of some of the past presentations.

The American Legion Post 44 unveiled a plaque that was placed on the doughboy on the courthouse lawn honoring POW soldiers of WWI and WWII conflicts. Several family members were present at the event. Lions Club President Chasity McGill and Lion Larry McGill placed a wreath near the doughboy, the Belington American Legion Post 96 performed a three gun salute and Emily Wilkins played taps. It was a very nice ceremony.

Members of the Philippi Lions Club, the American Legion Post 44, and other volunteers gathered today to put flags up at Mount Vernon Church. There are 200 big flags and 600 small flags, one on the grave of every veteran. It was raining too hard to get an "after" picture, so it is from 2023. If you get a chance drive out and see them, it is really beautiful.
This is an annual project and members look forward to it. The ladies from the church provide lunch for the volunteers. The flags will be up all weekend.
