BLACK HISTORY SPOTLIGHT:

Neil deGrasse Tyson is an astronomer, astrophysicist, and author. He is responsible for popularizing science through his books and appearances on television and radio. A trip to Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural Sciences in NYC as a child sparked his interest in astronomy. He received advanced degrees in physics, astronomy, and astrophysics. He later worked at the Hayden Planetarium as a staff scientist and researched issues related to the structure of galaxies and evolution. He’s also an accomplished author of 17 science related books.

BLACK HISTORY SPOTLIGHT:

Simone Biles is considered one of the greatest gymnasts of all time. She is a powerhouse and captivates international audiences with her exceptional skills and performances. She’s the 1st female U.S. gymnast to win 4 gold medals at a single Olympic games and the 1st to win 3 consecutive world all-around titles from 2013 to 2015. Simone has 10 world championship gold medals, the most won by a female in the history of the sport. In addition, she one of the most decorated gymnasts of all time with 32 medals. In 2022, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

BLACK HISTORY SPOTLIGHT:

Benjamin Banneker was born a free Black man during the slavery era. He is known for being one of the first Black intellectuals; he was mathematician, astronomer, complier of almanacs, inventor, and writer. He was an avid reader and particularly skilled in mathematics. When he was 20 years old, he built a wooden clock that kept precise time. He’s mostly notably known for working as a surveyor who created the city plan of the land that is now known as our nation’s capital of Washington D.C.

Serena Williams is arguably one of the greatest tennis players of all time. She revolutionized tennis game by winning 23 Grand Slam singles titles more than any other woman or man during the open era. In addition, Serena and her sister Venus won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles and 3 doubles gold medals at the Olympics. Serena is also an entrepreneur in fashion, beauty, and accessories.
