Mercy Neighborhood Ministries operates three distinct programs: child care, adult day care and adult education. The child care program serves 149 children and their families from pre-school through 8th grade. The pre-school program is an all-day program serving children from ages two through five helping them prepare to enter school. The school age program serves children in Kindergarten through 8
th grade providing before and after school care. The after school program provides a safe, academically based environment which offers extracurricular activities such as music, art and chess as well as homework assistance and tutoring. The program also offers a nine week summer camp that further educates the children at two sites, Mercy Family Center and Mercy Vocational High School, through summer classes and extracurricular activities and trips. This program is for nursing home eligible seniors who would prefer to remain in their homes. The Monday through Friday program serves two healthy meals and snacks throughout the day. The program helps seniors maintain their muscle mass and flexibility through regular exercise. Finally, the program offers daily activities which give the seniors socialization, friendships, and help with things like fine motor skills. The adult education program provides tutoring sessions and classes for adults to help them earn their General Equivalency Diploma (GED). The small class structure helps adults learn the computer skills and subjects that they need to earn their high school diploma. The adult education program also offers adult basic education sessions for those students who are not yet ready to take any of the four tests for the GED exams.
