As a law enforcement officer of this Academy, my fundamental duty is to preserve life of all mankind; to protect and safeguard lives and property; to protect the innocent against deception, the weak against oppression or intimidation, and the peaceful against violence and disorder; and to respect the Constitutional rights of all men to liberty, equality, and justice. I will be fully aware of the ethical responsibilities of my position and will strive constantly to live up to the highest possible standards of professional enforcement. I understand the importance of having a clear understanding of my duties in order to perform my duties consistent with all law enforcement standards. I understand that a law enforcement officer acts as an official representative of the client and governing state who is required and trusted to work within the law whom performs all duties impartially, without favor, affection or ill will and without regard to status, s*x, race, religion, political belief or aspiration. I will keep my private life unsullied as an example to all; maintain courageous calm in the face of danger, scorn, or ridicule; develop self-restraint; and be constantly mindful of the welfare of others; honest in thought and deed in both my personal and professional life. I will be exemplary in obeying the laws of the land and the regulations of all States. I will at all times protect, assist and support my fellow Law Enforcement Officers in the performance of professionalism while upholding the rules and regulations provided by our clients and governing state. Whatever I see or hear of a confidential nature or that is confided in me in my official capacity will be kept ever secret unless revelation is necessary in the performance of my duty by a court of law. I will never act officiously or permit personal feelings, prejudices, animosities, or friendships to influence my decision. With no compromise for crime and with relentless prosecution of criminals, I will enforce the law courageously and appropriately without fear or favor, malice, or ill will, never employing unnecessary force or violence, and never accepting gratuities. As a law enforcement officer, I will never employ unnecessary force or violence and use only such force in the discharge of duty as is reasonable in all circumstances. Force is used only with greatest restraint and only after discussion, negotiation, and persuasion have been found to be inappropriate or ineffective. While the use of force is occasionally unavoidable, every law enforcement officer refrains from the unnecessary infliction of pain or suffering and never engages in cruel, degrading or inhuman treatment of any person. As a law enforcement officer, I will cooperate with all legally authorized agencies and their representatives in the pursuit of justice. An officer or agency may be one among many organizations that may provide law enforcement services to a jurisdiction. It is essential that a law enforcement officer help colleagues fully and completely and with respect and consideration. I recognize the credential issued by this Academy and my governing state as a symbol of public faith, and I accept it as a public trust to be held so long as I am true to the ethics of this Law Enforcement service. I will constantly strive to achieve those objectives and ideals, dedicating myself before God to my profession-law enforcement.
