Join us for a special visit with renowned picture book author and illustrator Eric Velasquez as he reads his stories and shares his creative process! Mr. Velasquez is an award-winning children’s book creator whose works draw from his experiences growing up in an Afro-Puerto Rican family in Harlem.

Coming up next: Author visits with Andrea Tsurumi!

Join us for a visit with local author and illustrator Andrea Tsurumi! From Accident! and Crab Cake to Mr. Watson’s Chickens, their beloved books are packed with hilarious visuals and amusing, thought-provoking stories. Andrea will read their picture books, talk about their experience making children’s books, and share a fun craft! This program is best suited to preschool and school age children and their families. A limited number of Tsurumi’s books will be available at each library visit.

Starting today, Enchantment Theatre is bringing "Mommy's Khimar" to library branches!

With expressive masks, life-size puppets, original music, and imaginative scenic effects, Enchantment Theatre Company brings to life “Mommy’s Khimar” by Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow. In this story, a Black, Muslim girl imagines all the things she can be in her mother’s beautiful, yellow khimar. Each performance will last approximately 30 minutes, followed by an audience Q&A session. Recommended for grades K-5 and families.

Catch our final performances of the season! On December 14 at Joseph E. Coleman Library, learn all about Kwanzaa with Philadelphia’s Afrocentric Storytelling Group, Keepers of the Culture. On December 15 at Parkway Central Library, Pages to Pirouettes will bring their beloved performance of The Nutcracker back to the Montgomery Auditorium!
