First public library. First hospital. First zoo. First stock exchange. First White House. Philadelphia has always been a city of firsts.
And, according to professional skateboarder and Philly's own Jahmir Brown, we can add one more to the list!
In April, we joined Mayor Cherelle L. Parker and partners from across Philadelphia to reopen Thomas Paine Plaza outside the Municipal Services Building (MSB) - a reimagined civic space designed for gathering, movement, protest, performance, lunch breaks, skateboarding, and everyday city life.
This $18 million transformation includes:
A fully repaired roofing system (the plaza sits on top of the lower level of MSB)
New seating, shade structures, and landscaping
A redesigned skate plaza
ADA-accessible improvements
Restored public art
Bike parking and gathering spaces
A big thank you to SkatePhilly and Vans for helping bring this vision to life.
One Philly. One project at a time.
