The Neshoba County Soil & Water Conservation District warmly invites all members and those interested in joining to our Annual Awards Banquet, taking place on Tuesday, September 29th, 2026, at the Neshoba County Coliseum. Festivities will begin at 6:00 p.m.

The Neshoba County Soil and Water is now taking tree orders through October 30th, 2026.
Order forms are available from 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday at the office or you can call 601-656-8783 Ext. 3 and we will e-mail or mail an order form to you. The office is located at 511 East Lawn Drive in the USDA Building. We are asking that you pay for the trees when placing your order. You may drop off your payment and order form in a drop box outside of the front door.
The trees are bare root trees and will arrive in February 2027. By ordering bulk wholesale we can pass the savings on to you. Proceeds from tree sales will help support educational programs throughout the year.

Funds can be used at any two-year or four-year college in Mississippi and may be deferred for up to eight years after high school graduation. Must be enrolled in College as a Sophomore, Junior, Senior or Graduate student.

On April 8th, the Neshoba County Soil and Water Conservation District’s Erica Fortenberry and the Natural Resource Conservation Service’s Lee Jones, along with the Mississippi Soil and Water Conservation Commission’s Ray King visited with 210 8th grade students from Neshoba Central Middle School. They demonstrated the effects of erosion and compaction on soil samples using a Rainwater Simulator as well as the soil profile.

Conservation Careers
On April 1st, the Neshoba County Soil and Water Conservation District’s Erica Fortenberry and the Mississippi Soil & Water Conservation Commission’s Ray King along with NRCS' Russell Singleton (Wildlife Biologist), Damion Hegwood (Forester) and Scott Coleman (Ag Engineer) visited with Neshoba Central High School’s Future Farmers of America and Engineering classes. They talked to the students about different careers in conservation and the importance of conservation in farming.

Tree Planting Week is celebrated in February each year and was established in 1974 as an annual event to recognize the importance of trees to the environment. The Neshoba County Soil and Water Conservation District celebrated Tree Planting Week with third grade students in local schools this February and March.

Damion Hegwood and Lee Jones with the Natural Resource Conservation Service and Erica Fortenberry with the Neshoba County Soil and Water Conservation District visited with third grade students from Philadelphia Elementary, Union Elementary and Neshoba Central Elementary. They taught them why trees are so important to our environment as well as the economic importance of the forestry industry. Just under 360 third grade students received a Loblolly Pine seedling to take home. These seedlings were donated by Arborgen’s Super Tree Seedlings.

Local students participate in Soil & Water Conservation Carnival

The Neshoba County Soil & Water Conservation District hosted their 30th Annual Conservation Carnival at the Neshoba County Coliseum on Tuesday, February 17th, Wednesday, February 18th and Thursday, February 19th, 2026.
Just under 400 fifth grade students from Bogue Chitto, Pearl River, Tucker, Neshoba Central, Union and Philadelphia Schools took part in this year’s carnival.
The purpose of this event is to enhance our youth of tomorrow with the importance of our natural resources and what they can do to conserve them.
Nine educational stations were set up and students rotated through all stations.

We would like to thank Brown Bottling for the donation of drinks for the kids and Jerry Smith and Harvin Hudson for cooking lunch for the presenters.
