Today, the Senate passed my legislation, SB 908, to strengthen Pennsylvania's Prevailing Wage Act and ensure skilled workers performing essential off-site custom fabrication work receive the fair wages they deserve.

Thank you to my colleagues for rejecting efforts to weaken this bill and standing with Pennsylvania's tradesmen and tradeswomen. Now it's time for the House to get this legislation across the finish line.

Today, Senate Democrats provided critical and necessary support for the successful passage of Senate Bill 908, which ensures that work done on public projects is included in the Pennsylvania Prevailing Wage Act.

This bill, long championed by Senator Tina Tartaglione, ensures that off-site fabrication, including HVAC, sheet metal, and plumbing, among other work, must still meet Pennsylvania’s prevailing wage standards, ending a practice that allowed workers to be paid less for projects that would pay more if they were done onsite.

The bill further ends the practice of split rates, where a worker is paid two different rates for the same job on the same day.

Senate Democrats united to defeat three amendments on the floor that would have rendered the bill unpassable. These amendments would have prevented workers from receiving proper and lawful wages.

I'm proud to announce that over 1.8 million in PCCD grant funding is coming to organizations serving Philadelphia to support violence prevention, youth development, mental health services, victim assistance, substance abuse prevention, and public safety initiatives.

These investments will help strengthen communities, support families, and expand access to critical services across our city.

6/10 - Raise the Wage Rally

Proud to recognize the first-ever student council at Julia de Burgos School on the Senate floor this week.

These students are stepping up as leaders in their school community, and it was an honor to celebrate them in the Pennsylvania State Senate.

This week I joined the Pennsylvania CDFI Network, community leaders, and small business owners to talk about making sure entrepreneurs have the tools they need to succeed.

Small businesses are the backbone of our neighborhoods. They create jobs, strengthen local economies, and help communities thrive. Right now, too many business owners still struggle to access the capital and support they need to grow.

That’s why Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) are so important. They invest in people, ideas, and neighborhoods that are too often overlooked by traditional lenders.

I've seen their impact firsthand in my district. I've visited businesses that were able to expand, create jobs, and build stronger commercial corridors because a CDFI believed in their vision.

Supporting workers and supporting small businesses go hand in hand. We need to continue investing in both if we want Pennsylvania's economy to grow.

Thank you to the PA CDFI Network and all the entrepreneurs working every day to build stronger communities across our Commonwealth.

My mother, Margaret Tartaglione, devoted her life to this city and to the people she served. To see her name now permanently connected to a place so meaningful to our community is both humbling and profoundly moving.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of welcoming a group of student leaders from Julia de Burgos School to the Pennsylvania Senate.

These students are members of their school's very first Student Council, and they are already learning the value of leadership, civic engagement, and making their voices heard. Seeing young people step up, represent their peers, and take an active role in their community gives me great hope for the future.

The leaders of tomorrow are sitting in our classrooms today, and it is our responsibility to encourage them, invest in them, and make sure they know their voices matter.

Thank you for visiting the Capitol. Pennsylvania's future is bright with young leaders like these leading the way.

This week, I was proud to stand alongside a bipartisan group of lawmakers, advocates, and families to introduce the "So Every Body Can Move" Act.

Movement is medicine. For Pennsylvanians living with limb loss, limb difference, or mobility impairments, access to the right prosthetic or orthotic device can mean the difference between independence and isolation.

As someone who uses a wheelchair, I know how important mobility is to living a full, active, and independent life.

Our legislation would ensure that when a doctor determines a prosthetic or orthotic device is medically necessary, insurance companies cannot stand in the way. No one should be forced to settle for inadequate equipment or go without the care they need because of cost.

I’m grateful to my colleagues in both the House and Senate for joining together on this effort. Read more about this legislation here: https://senatortartaglione.com/pennsylvania-lawmakers-unite-to-expand-access-to-life-changing-prosthetic-and-orthotic-care
