Family Promise of Philadelphia

Family Promise of Philadelphia We work with Philly families in times of crisis to prevent eviction, find shelter, and provide access to safe, affordable housing.

(Formerly known as Philadelphia Interfaith Hospitality Network) O U R S E R V I C E S
Our approach is customized to address each family's specific and unique challenges.

➡ Prevention & Diversion Services. We collaborate with families, landlords, and other agencies to prevent family homelessness.

➡ Emergency Housing & Relocation. We partner with caring congregations, landlords, and hotels to

provide each family with the privacy and space they need.

➡ Innovative Housing Solutions
We do what it takes to get families housed. We provide deposit assistance, shallow rent subsidies, and insurance to landlords who rent to families with poor credit who enroll in our tenant training program.

➡ Children & Youth Services
Each family member matters. We provide clothing, diapers, school supplies, art therapy, counseling, and trauma-informed care to help children learn and thrive.

➡ Ongoing Support
Our relationship with families extends for years as their needs evolve. This looks like education and career counseling, family therapy, and/or financial guidance. With this type of support, family members even become volunteers themselves and "pay it forward".

The weather can't decide between spring and summer, so we had a Sprummer Giveaway event to embrace the mash-up. 🌷☀️

Families browsed tables with shoes, baby clothes, kitchen essentials, bedding, and all the little things that make home feel more comfortable. And the best part: 50 families left with items that will make daily life a little easier!

Thank you to our amazing social worker interns, staff, and volunteers who guided families and helped restock tables.

What an incredible evening.

Last night, Family Promise of Philadelphia held its second annual Our Future Begins at Home Gala. Thanks to this amazing community, we’ve already raised $111,635 to help families remain safely housed!

We’re deeply grateful to our honorees Ellen Ufberg and Judah Labovitz, Event Chair Judy Weinstein, special guests Sen. Art Haywood and Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl Champion Britain Covey, and our courageous program graduate speakers. To our Hosts and Co-Hosts, this evening would not have been possible without your exceptional support. And a special thank you to The Capital Grille (Philadelphia) for creating such a wonderful experience for our guests.

And we're not finished yet. Nancy and Bob Elfant are matching the next $25,000 in gifts, doubling the impact we can make for families working toward housing stability. Make your gift today to help us reach the match! https://givebutter.com/FPPGala26🔗

A stable home shouldn’t be something families have to constantly fight to keep.

As conversations continue this month about the affordability of housing, we’re reminded how quickly a single setback can put a family at risk of housing instability: lost hours at work, a medical bill, a rent increase.

At Family Promise of Philadelphia, we work to prevent homelessness before it begins through eviction prevention and shelter diversion services, partnering with families, landlords, and community organizations to keep families safely housed and connected to their communities.

We are grateful to the 9th grade class at Cheltenham High School for raising $564 to support families facing housing insecurity!

As part of their semester-long project to deepen empathy and understanding of housing insecurity, students created a powerful scenario-based exhibition inspired by the characters in Evicted by Matthew Desmond. Visitors explored the difficult choices many families face and learned from both the perspectives of tenants and landlords.

Selling handmade gifts, the students chose to donate every dollar to our organization. Thank you to the Cheltenham 9th graders for using your creativity, compassion, and talent to strengthen our community!

Thank you to all who joined us last week for Family Promise of Philadelphia’s 2026 Annual Meeting!

We were honored to hear from graduates of our programs, representatives from seven of our partner congregations, and a special guest speaker from POWER Interfaith. One takeaway was clear: lasting change happens when communities come together to support families with compassion and dignity.

We are grateful to every speaker, supporter, and congregation partner who made the evening so meaningful. Thank you to those who donated diapers for families in our programs. And, a special thank you to United Lutheran Seminary for hosting us.

Financial literacy and tenant rights go hand in hand when it comes to housing stability.

After receiving conflicting information about rent and back payments, Ms. Naima Muhammed enrolled in our Keys to a Better Tomorrow workshop. Through the program, she gained a better understanding of her rights and the financial knowledge needed to advocate for safer, more stable housing for herself and her four-year-old daughter.

Her story is a reminder that when families have the tools to navigate complex housing challenges, a stable home becomes possible.

Sleep is the foundation for health. Yet for many families, stress from housing insecurity can lead to poor sleep quality.

That's why a safe place to rest and the essentials can make all the difference. We're proud to spotlight Casper Sleep Shop whose generous support has helped our families get the resources they need for a good night's sleep.
