Awww... remember last year when Randy Lobasso from Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia and Daniel Paschal of East Coast Greenway Alliance wrote about the Spring Garden Street Greenway for PlanPhilly? That was nice.

Spring Garden Street through Center City may only be 2.1 miles long, but it represents an opportunity for the cycling community — in Philadelphia and across the East Coast.

Our friends over at the Office for Transportation Infrastructure and Utilities (OTIS) are working on designing a new Washington Avenue. Our bike and pedestrian infrastructure is only as strong as the network it is a part of, so if you believe in the future of Spring Garden Street, tell OTIS that you want to see bike and ped improvements on Washington, too.

Also - community engagement is difficult during a pandemic. OTIS has done an amazing job making the Washington Ave. conversation open and accessible despite social distancing. Go check it out!

Ensuring our street infrastructure best serves the needs of Philadelphians now and in the future

Wow, it's been a while since this page was updated (blame it on the elder millennials who don't actually understand social media). The Spring Garden Street Greenway is still underway, and your friends at the Pennsylvania Environmental Council and the East Coast Greenway Alliance are working with the City of Philadelphia to move it forward. It's a big project, though, so it's a slow process.

Interested in knowing more about where we're at? Check out this blog post from the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia. It was written lasy year, but still entirely relevant.

The Spring Garden Street Greenway (SGSG) — a key segment of both the Circuit and the East Coast Greenway — looks a lot like it did four years ago when $800,000 was awarded to the City of Philadelphia to begin its transformation. This is not OK, and as the organizations behind this effort continu...
