Fairmount Park Conservancy is proud to be an official charity partner of the Philadelphia Marathon for the second year in a row! If you love running and you love parks, please consider joining our Park Champions team of fundraising runners participating in the Marathon and Half Marathon events. All fundraisers get a race bib and shirt, plus special Conservancy perks!

This is a wonderful and very fitting partnership; the races’ beautiful and scenic routes take athletes past historic landmarks, through vibrant neighborhoods, and along Philadelphia’s picturesque waterfronts. (Did you know? 15 miles of the marathon route go through parks!)

🔨 What does it take to preserve a 19th-century mansion in the heart of Fairmount Park? This Historic Preservation Month, we’re spotlighting the Fairmount Park Conservancy historic preservation team’s recent work at the iconic Rockland Mansion.
Built in 1810 as a merchant’s summer retreat overlooking the Schuylkill River in East Fairmount Park, Rockland Mansion stands as a remarkable example of Early American architecture and craftsmanship.

Last fall, the Conservancy’s historic preservation team completed extensive restoration work to preserve some of Rockland’s most iconic exterior features, from repairing massive reeded columns and restoring intricate Palladian windows to stabilizing historic railings and replacing deteriorated woodwork.

Through traditional craftsmanship, careful research, and hands-on conservation techniques, the team helped ensure that the beauty of Rockland Mansion can continue to inspire future generations. Philadelphia’s parks are full of stories like this, and preservation work like this helps keep that history alive.

It was a spectacular Saturday at Fotterall Square! On May 16, over 90 volunteers joined Fairmount Park Conservancy, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and Friends of Fotterall Square to beautify this neighborhood park in North Philadelphia and cap off Love Your Park Week 2026. Volunteers spent the morning planting shrubs and flowers, mulching trees, and removing litter and debris to help prepare the park for a vibrant spring and summer season.

Thank you to all of our volunteers, with a special thanks to Philadelphia Parks & Recreation Commissioner Sue Slawson, Fairmount Park Conservancy CEO Tony Sorrentino, TD Bank Senior Relationship Manager & Vice President Amy Derstine, Friends of Fotterall Square President Tyrone Young, and PowerCorps PHL for joining us. This event was made possible thanks to the support of our sponsors: TD Bank, PECO, Greenberg Traurig, Independence Blue Cross, WSFS Bank, and Target.

🏃🌳 Three trail runs down, one incredible community built along the way!

Over the past few months, runners from across Philadelphia have hit the Trolley Trail with us alongside amazing partners from Chasing Trail, November Project Philadelphia, and Women in Ultrarunning. Each run has brought new energy, stories, and connections to West Fairmount Park.

This 4.5-mile series has not only helped runners log miles, it has also provided a chance to learn about the old Fairmount Park trolley route, and explore the historic Trolley Trail that winds through the park today. Thank you to every runner, pace leader, and community partner who has joined us so far!

Want to get involved? We have more Trolley Trail runs coming up:

🏃 Wednesday, June 3 (Global Running Day) with Young & Active Philly
🏃 Wednesday, July 1 with Trail Sisters Philadelphia, PA

Whether you’ve joined us before or are thinking about coming out for the first time, there’s still time to hit the trail with us! Register here: https://events.ticketleap.com/events/fairmountpark/trolley-trail-run

We’d love to keep the momentum going with this series and are looking to partner with more local running groups for future Trolley Trail runs this August and beyond. Interested in collaborating? Send us a DM!

🚶🏾‍♀️ At its core, We Walk PHL is simple: people coming together to walk. But as We Walk Leader Fiona McCoy shares, it’s also about so much more: social connection, wellness, and discovering the parks and trails right in your own neighborhood.

Through weekly guided group walks at 29 park locations across Philadelphia, We Walk PHL creates space for people to move their bodies, meet new neighbors, reconnect with nature, and support one another along the way 💚

From longtime friends reconnecting decades later to walkers encouraging each other through injuries and life changes, Fiona’s story is a reminder that something as simple as a walk can have a lasting impact.

We Walk PHL is a partnership between Fairmount Park Conservancy, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, Philadelphia Department of Public Health, and Get Healthy Philly.

Ready to take the next step? The We Walk PHL spring season runs through June 30. Find a walking group near you: https://myphillypark.org/wewalk-spring26/
