Pay attention: Studies have shown links between teen patterns of social media use and mental health problems. Dr. Katherine Keyes at Columbia University says, growth in social media and smartphone online use in the last 10 years,” is correlated to rates of teen depression and su***de, which also rose over the past 10 years.

Researchers are investigating how social media affects mental health. They’re learning that who you meet and what you find online can make a difference.
