The Veterans Group - Philadelphia

The Veterans’ Group is a non-profit partnering with Breaking Bread Community Shelter in Upper Darby, PA to address the needs of homeless Veterans in the surrounding area. While protecting our country, Veterans have encountered some of the most horrific experiences known to mankind. Their experiences have left some with post traumatic issues which are exhibited through symptoms of substance abuse, increased medical issues, and reduced life and coping skills. The statistics are staggering. According to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, only 7% of the general population can claim veteran status, but 20% of the male homeless population in the United States is comprised of Veterans. 51% of homeless Veterans have disabilities, while 50% suffer from serious mental illness and 70% have substance abuse problems. Our mission started from properties on Baring Street in Philadelphia. With the support of many volunters, corporatations, and donors, we have been privledged to help hundreds of men with their journey back to civilian life. The needs of our Veterans have changed since our founding 2007. The population is aging, and a growing number of men and women are struggling with mental health and addiction issues. In partnering with organizations like Breaking Bread Community Center, The Veterans Group remains committed to finding new ways to provide resources and assistance to our Veterans, with the ultimate goal of ending Veteran Homelessness in our community, and across our country.
