CASA Philadelphia

CASA Philadelphia Find out more at the links below. Each CASA volunteer gets to know a foster child and speak on behalf of his/her best interests and wishes.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children of Philadelphia trains and supports volunteers to advance the welfare of children in foster care through effective advocacy. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is a national association in the United States that supports and promotes court-appointed advocates for abused or neglected children in order to provide children with a safe and he

althy environment in permanent homes. CASA volunteers are not lawyers; they are caring citizens appointed by a Family Court judge to represent the best interests of children in foster care. With the personal attention and care of a CASA volunteer advocate, foster children's needs are met and a brighter future begins.

Before a volunteer ever steps into the role of advocate, they are carefully prepared for the responsibility.

Training includes learning how courtroom advocacy works, an understanding of child development and the child welfare system, and how to communicate clearly and effectively with everyone involved in a case.

Just as important, volunteers are not sent into this work alone.

They receive structured training, continued learning, and ongoing support from CASA staff throughout their time in the program.

Strong advocacy begins with preparation, guidance, and a steady commitment to showing up for children in foster care.

School decisions can shape a child’s future in lasting ways.

For some children in foster care, there is not always a consistent adult available to make informed education decisions on their behalf. This becomes even more critical when special education services are involved.

This is why education advocacy matters.

CASA’s Education Decision-Makers (EDM) work to help ensure a child’s educational needs remain visible, their progress is closely followed, and the supports they need are not overlooked.

Every child deserves the opportunity to reach important milestones in school with informed, child-centered advocacy behind them.

It’s National Loneliness Week — a reminder that loneliness affects people of all ages, including children in foster care.

For many youth in the system, frequent moves, disrupted connections, and uncertainty can create deep feelings of isolation. Too often, they navigate these challenges without a consistent adult in their corner.

That’s where CASA volunteers make a difference.

Our advocates show up every month — reliably, compassionately, and without judgment. They listen, they check in, they bring stability, and they remind each child that they matter. That they are seen. That they are not alone.

This week, we honor the young people experiencing loneliness and reaffirm our commitment to making sure no child in foster care feels forgotten.
