Whole Child. Whole Childhood. ๐ŸŒŸ

Today is Horizons GSFS Giving Day, a powerful moment to support the students and families who return year after year to a community grounded in care, learning, and connection.

Horizons supports students from PreK through 8th grade, creating consistent opportunities for them to learn, grow and thrive, summer after summer. โ˜€๏ธ

As children grow, their needs change. Their confidence builds. Their voices emerge. Their sense of self begins to take shape - and at Horizons, we have the privilege of growing alongside our students through it all.

This is what we mean when we say: Whole Child. Whole Childhood.

Your gift today, no matter the size, supports a summer where students strengthen essential academic skills, build focus and persistence, and experience the satisfaction that comes from steady progress. It fuels learning environments that are structured, joyful, and responsive to each child.

This summer, we were overjoyed to welcome back four alumni from our very first graduating class ('24) who returned to spend another summer with us as part of the city's Career Connected Learning PHL program. ๐Ÿ–‡๏ธ๐Ÿ“‚๐Ÿ“Š

This proven model provides paid work experiences and career exploration opportunities for youth and young adults and aims to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences, helping youth develop career readiness skills and explore potential career paths. ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ’ผ

For each of them, this marked their very first workforce experience, and we are honored they chose to begin building their professional foundation with us. Itโ€™s a true testament to the community weโ€™ve built and continue to nurture, and a beautiful reminder of the lasting impact Horizons has on our students and families.

๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ“š Rakeem is a student-athlete who worked alongside our Physical Education Specialist, helping set up strength and conditioning courses, organize games, and guide yoga and meditation sessions.

๐ŸŽจ Anajah, who enjoys art and crafting, worked with our 3rd grade class as they prepared for the Project-Based Learning showcase, attended field trips, and also helped serve breakfast and lunch to students and staff.

โœ๏ธ๐Ÿ“š Zahmiya enjoyed working with our Kindergarten class and supported students as they explored their imagination and expressed their creativity. She also learned how to use a copy machine for the first time (yay!)

๐Ÿ’ก๐Ÿ’ญ Ryan worked with our 5th grade class and quickly emerged as a leader in the space, helping spearhead various projects while building meaningful connections with students during activities and field trips.

Ryan, Anajah, Rakeem and Zahmiya we wish you all the very best as you prepare for sophomore year, and we are so very proud of the contributions you've made to this space and our growing community! ๐Ÿค—

This summer, we've partnered with Togetherhood to introduce our PreK-8th grade students to the fundamentals of coding and computer programming! ๐Ÿ‘พ๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿ•น๏ธ๐ŸŽฎ

Through the use of Scratch, a beginner-friendly programming language developed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), students have explored basic coding concepts such as sequencing, loops, conditionals, and variables. ๐Ÿ“ˆ๐Ÿ“‰

Each session encourages creativity and collaboration, while developing critical thinking and problem solving skills. ๐Ÿ’ญ๐Ÿ’ก

By the end of the program, students will have gained a foundational understanding of coding principles and be able to create their own interactive animations, stories, and games! ๐Ÿ•น๏ธ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ‘พ
