After employees and teams were recognized for their contributions to military supply chain readiness, they spent some well-earned downtime playing golf and other activities. We recently hosted the Problem-Solving Practitioner course onboard Naval Support Activity Philadelphia to equip our team with hands-on, data-driven strategies to help identify root causes and cut through institutional barriers.

In honor of National Military Appreciation Month and Harrisburg Navy Week, NAVSUP Weapon Systems Support is stepping up to the plate with the Harrisburg Senators!

On Tuesday, May 19, NAVSUP WSS commander Rear Adm. Mike York threw the first pitch to celebrate our Mechanicsburg team during their employee recognition and awards celebration. As the Chief of Naval Operations's "Foundry" concept reminds us, readiness is generated ashore, making our dedicated civilian and military workforce a critical component of our warfighting readiness.

NAVSUP Names New Senior Executive Service Member

I am delighted to announce Mr. John A. “Jack” Courtney’s selection into the Senior Executive Service. Mr. Courtney will assume the duties and responsibilities of Deputy Commander-Aviation, Naval Supply Systems Command, Weapon Systems Support effective 1 June 2026.

Mr. Courtney began his federal civilian career with the Department of the Navy as a DoN Acquisition Intern in the life-cycle logistics specialty in March 1998. Mr. Courtney’s DoN civilian career spans over 28 years, following a four-year enlistment in the United States Air Force as an E-4 Munitions Systems Specialist completed OCONUS tours in Guam and the Republic of Korea from 1989 to 1993 supporting Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. His combined federal service now surpasses 31 years of dedicated support in the defense o f the United States.

His previous NAVSUP WSS assignments include Deputy Director, Aviation Operations; Deputy Director, Aviation Weapons Support Department; Director, F-35 Integrated Weapon Support Team; Director, Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) Department; Deputy Director, Common Systems Division; Branch Head, Aircraft Engines Division; and Logistics Manager F-14 Integrated Weapon Support Team. Mr. Courtney’s logistics experience spans management of life cycle sustainment for a multitude of aircraft systems including Fixed-Wing and Rotary-Wing platforms, 5th Generation Fighters, Mission Systems and Sensors, Communications Security (COMSEC), Air Combat Electronics, Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), Aircraft Armament Systems, and Aircraft Propulsion Systems.

He graduated Phi Beta Kappa with Highest Distinction from Penn State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Politics in 1997. He maintains DAWIA Level 3 certification in Life Cycle Logistics with the Defense Acquisition University and has been a member of the Defense Acquisition Corps since January 2013. In 2021, Mr. Courtney completed the Leadership for a Democratic Society course through the Federal Executive Institute. Mr. Courtney has been twice the recipient of the prestigious Admiral Stan Arthur Award for Logistics Excellence, first in 2003 as a member of the Logistics and Sustainment Team of the Year, and again in 2022 as the Senior Civilian Logistics and Sustainment Professional of the Year as well as the DON Meritorious Civilian Service Award in 2007.

Kevin Joyce, NAVSUP Weapon Systems Support deputy director for international programs, and Evan Casey, strategic planning & portfolio management for international programs, hosted Commodore Anthony Savage, director general of navy aviation, aircrew training, and commons branch for the Royal Australian Navy, along with his delegation, at Naval Support Activity Philadelphia on Tuesday, May 19. Discussions centered on follow on supply support and sustainment performance metrics for the MH-60R platform and Regional Sustainment Framework within the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command area of responsibility.

NAVSUP Weapon Systems Support joined forces with U.S. Army, United States Air Force, and Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) leadership at the Parker Aerospace 8th Annual Customer Collaboration Summit.

Under the theme “Collaborate and Deliver,” leaders from U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command, Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), and the 448th Supply Chain Management Wing worked together to create actionable plans that improve communication and maximize warfighter readiness.
