STEM City PHL

STEM City PHL We are an initiative within the City of Philadelphia's Commerce Department to enhance STEM proficiency and encourage employment in STEM fields.

Launched at the 2013 White House Science Fair, US2020 is a national initiative that aims to change the course of STEM education in America by dramatically increasing the number of STEM professionals engaged in high-quality STEM mentoring with underserved and underrepresented students. The City of Philadelphia joined US2020's national STEM mentoring movement in 2014 after being selected as one of s

even winning cities (out of a field of 52) in the US2020 City Competition. US2020 is the mentoring arm of STEMcityPHL, which is the City of Philadelphia’s STEM education initiative. Our goal is to enhance STEM proficiency and encourage employment in these fields. We do this by promoting and strengthening STEM education opportunities for Philadelphians while supporting our own STEM mentoring programs through the US2020 national initiative. We are housed in the City of Philadelphia’s Department of Commerce. Specifically, Commerce's Talent Development Unit. The Talent Development Unit partners with public and private entities, academic institutions, employers and workforce training agencies to create programming that supports tangible pipelines to employment and success for all Philadelphians.
