Coalition to Abolish Death By Incarceration - CADBI

Coalition to Abolish Death By Incarceration - CADBI Grassroots campaign to end Life Without Parole / Death By Incarceration sentences in Pennsylvania. You can reach us at [email protected]

There are over 5000 people in Pennsylvania serving Life Without Parole (LWOP) sentences. In Pennsylvania, a life sentence means your natural life–it is a sentence that condemns you to die in prison--which is why many choose to call LWOP “Death By Incarceration.” We believe that sentencing people to Death By Incarceration is a violation of their human rights and an affront to the humanity of us all

. Our coalition is a joint effort of Fight For Lifers, the Human Rights Coalition, and Decarcerate PA on the outside, as well as Right to Redemption and numerous individuals currently serving 'death by incarceration' sentences in Pennsylvania's prisons. Please be in touch if you or your organization would like to learn more about the Coalition and our goals.

SONGS FROM THE HOLE
At 15, he took a life. Three days later, his brother’s life was taken. A moving chronicle of forgiveness, family, and the transformative power of art, SONGS FROM THE HOLE weaves music and storytelling into an innovative documentary visual album. Through clear-eyed narration and lyrical journal entries, incarcerated musician James “JJ’88” Jacobs reveals his innermost struggles as a person who has both committed and experienced violent harm. While serving a double-life prison sentence, he searches for healing and peace as he comes of age in this documentary-musical odyssey composed behind bars.

In a unique creative process director Contessa Gayles (The Feminist on Cellblock Y, Founder Girls) collaborated with protagonist/writer JJ’88 and producer/music producer richie reseda to interweave the collective storytelling of the film’s non-fiction participants, with imagined memories, dreams and spiritual dialogues set to JJ’88’s original music. The result is a powerful mix of truth-telling and dreaming that reveal the potential for healing and liberation within us all.

Join us this weekend at City Hall on Saturday as we reflect on the tumultuous summer of 2020 following George Floyd and Walter Wallace death by police. The protests and disruptions as people rose up in justified rage. And where we must go. Despite early reforms we’re seeing the pushback, especially with a Mayor that has no public safety plan but only empty rhetoric.

ONE WEEK UNTIL WE RALLY IN HARRISBURG!

Together we will bring the presence of incarcerated loved ones into the capitol, and show our elected officials that they are more than people sentenced to die in prison and that our commonwealth is more than DBI sentencing.

Please register by 4/16/2024 so we can have a final count for transportation needs.

Join the Coalition For Parole Justice and the NOMO Foundation on Thursday April 18th, from 6-8pm, as we host a discussion on eliminating long-term parole. This system punishes people, even after they've served their time, making it harder to find jobs, housing, and to live a productive life. Join us as we find ways together to end long term parole supervision. Come listen to formerly incarcerated people speak as we search for solutions. There will be food and refreshments. Address: Nomo Foundation, 1212 S. Broad St. 19146
