South Street Police Mini Station

South Street Police Mini Station Part of the 3rd Police District -- the mini-station provides a more local home base of operations for the South Street Police Detail and file reports.

It is not city funded -operating expenses, utilities, repairs, equipment are fundraised via volunteers. The South Street Police Detail was originally activated in 1985 to provide weekend coverage. This detail has evolved into a seven day a week, 24-hours a day, year round service commitment, expanded to cover the entire South Street Head House District and the neighborhoods of Queen Village, Bella

Vista and Hawthorne in the 3rd District and part of Society Hill and Washington Square West communities in the 6th District. These neighborhoods are patrolled by police vehicle, bike and street officers in conjunction with the town watch/ public safety committees associated with these neighborhoods. The Friends is an all volunteer organization whose purpose is raising funds to support the crucial programs of the South Street Police Detail and the Mini-Station. Our ongoing goal is to support police-related capital and operational issues. Your donation to the Friends of the South Street Police Mini-Station is tax exempt under section 501(c)3 of the IRS code as allowed by law. Additionally, our “Friends” organization is exempt from sales tax. We are also able to maintain very low operating costs due to our professional volunteers. Your donation will be used to secure resources such as computers, IT equipment, social media, police bikes and improving the environment of the mini-station by helping with maintenance and repairs such as air conditioning, heating, flooring, carpentry, painting, lighting and furniture.

The officers from the South St. Mini Station teamed up with neighbors to run a winter coat drive, gathering warm clothing for those who need it most. Today, all donations were delivered to the Bethesda Project to help support individuals experiencing homelessness this season.

Grateful to everyone who contributed and showed up for the community.

Vehicle Theft Prevention Bulletin: Protect Against Key Fob Cloning

Thieves increasingly use relay attacks to clone key fobs by amplifying signals from fobs left near entry doors, allowing them to unlock and start vehicles remotely.

Key Prevention Tips:

- Never leave your vehicle running unattended, even briefly.

- Store key fobs far from front doors or windows—ideally in a Faraday pouch or metal box to block signals.

- Install theft deterrents like steering wheel locks, audible car alarms, ignition kill switches, OBD-II port locks.

- Contact your dealership for the latest vehicle software updates.

Report suspicious activity immediately to local police. Stay vigilant—your actions prevent theft.

Welcome to the neighborhood, LT!

BVNA and QVNA presidents, Eugene Desyatnik and Cait Allen, had a chance to meet with the new commanding officer of the South Street Mini Station, Lt Geoff Strubinger.

Lt Strubinger took over command of the Mini Station after Lt Rodgers was reassigned to Traffic to help with all the exciting plans for the 250th celebration. We’ll miss Lt Rodgers but look forward to working with the new lieutenant!

We’re looking forward to this year’s Phestivus on Saturday, December 13th! One of the best parts of Phestivus is coming together to donate new toys for local families, in partnership with the South Street Police Mini Station and Engine 3. Can't make it? No problem. You can also drop off your donation at Lucky's Last Chance - Queen Village.

We're so grateful to be part of such a great neighborhood! Happy Thanksgiving!

Please drop off new or gently used adult and children's winter coats, hats, and gloves.
