Orkney Park Project

Orkney Park Project A group of determined citizens, working with the consent and support of the owner, have set up a 501(c)(3) to rescue this place from development. Get involved!

800 North Orkney Street is a several hundred year old historically certified cart way running between Reno and Myrtle Streets. Four lots right in the middle of the block are privately owned and have several old-growth trees on them. The owner, along with the neighborhood, have a strong interest in preserving this natural setting and transforming it into a place for people to experience nature and

provide a peaceful gathering spot for residents. In the midst of a rapidly gentrifying Northern Liberties neighborhood there exists a place of tranquility and beauty. This four lot, wooded parcel is home to the largest tree in Northern Liberties along with countless birds, squirrels, and from time to time possum, raccoons & a fox. This site is one of the few open spaces left in this section of Philadelphia. The Orkney Park Project is determined to save this gem for posterity as a nature preserve and gathering place. The Project is seeking funds, advocates and allies to join us in saving this place for the enrichment of our city. A group of determined citizens, working with the consent and support of the owner, is setting up a 501(c)(3) to rescue this place from development. The Project’s members include experienced individuals who have helped shaped the development of Northern Liberties, with contributions like the development of Liberty Lands, Orianna Hill Park, and the Northern Liberties Community Center. This coalition of neighbors intends to enroll collaborators from a wealth of city, state, and national organizations that are committed to supporting nature and blending nature into the urban experience. please contact us. Tiny hands planted these blooms today, leaving our handprints along the way! Hunting for bugs and watching things grow, this little garden is the best place we know! πŸŒ±πŸŒΈπŸ’•

🌱 Sprout alert!
Our first kids nature workshop of 2026 at Orkney Park was an absolute blast! πŸžπŸ›πŸŒ±πŸŒΈπŸ•·οΈ
Here is the dirty truth about what went down:
* Green thumbs activated: We spent time digging deep into the soil.
* Seedlings planted: Tiny hands tucked new plant babies safely into the earth.
* Bug patrol deployed: We searched high and low for our multi-legged neighbors.
* Creepy-crawly connections: We made official best friends with beetles, worms, and ants.
We came, we planted, we hung out with bugs, and we got beautifully muddy!
