The Penn Political Union

The Penn Political Union The Penn Political Union, a parliamentary-style debating forum, is the new center of politics at the University of Pennsylvania.

Welcome to the Penn Political Union, the new center for political deliberation and action at the University of Pennsylvania. A branch of the University of Pennsylvania Government and Politics Association, the Penn Political Union promotes both inter-party and intra-party parliamentary debate and other diverse opportunities for all students to participate in the political process. Through caucuses,

membership units based on varying ideologies, members can engage with like-minded individuals in a political community of their own and pursue common goals. The caucuses convene monthly for formal parliamentary sessions in which a bill or resolution addressing an important issue is considered by the entire membership of the Union. Through the authentic legislative model of the Union, students can experience how government and deliberative bodies function, master formal political debate, learn the arts of negotiation and compromise, write and propose legislation and policy, and practice politics in a competitive yet friendly atmosphere. The Union also organizes conferences with other colleges and universities in the College Youth In Government program to replicate the political process and to facilitate formal participation and advocacy in government and public affairs. The Union is the community for any Penn student considering a future in public service, government, policy, leadership in general, or just interested in learning more about civic and political affairs. If you are interested in joining the Penn Political Union, please feel free to reach out to any member of the leadership, visiting our website, or emailing us at [email protected].

The Penn Political Union stands with our sister organization in recognizing the immense violence and trauma suffered by people of color, especially black and indigenous people of color in this country. We proudly support Black Lives Matter and call for racial justice both in Philadelphia and across the country.
