SEAMAAC, Inc.

SEAMAAC, Inc. To support and serve marginalized communities in Philadelphia as they seek to advance their lives.

History
Founded more than 40 years ago by refugees, SEAMAAC's journey is a story of America shared by a long tradition & history of many immigrants & refugees who first sought refuge in the United States and eventually became the cornerstones of our nation. Our commitment in serving people regardless of race or national origins has inspired our mission and vision in building a stronger society bas

ed on the principles of justice and equity for all. SEAMAAC provides a wide array of direct services and takes an active approach to building community leadership through education, organizing and advocacy. SEAMAAC envisions a strong and unified society, where immigrants and refugees work alongside other Americans to build shared political, economic and social power. We envision a community where the contributions of each generation of Americans, whether native to this land, immigrant, or brought against their will, are equally acknowledged, valued and embraced, and where all people live whole, healthy lives with joy and dignity.

Meet the 2026 Nonprofit of the Year: SEAMAAC🏆

SEAMAAC, Inc. provides direct services to immigrants and refugees in Philadelphia.

In January, during one of Philadelphia’s coldest winters in recent years, SEAMAAC’s team and 70 volunteers came together for a powerful day of impact — distributing more than 400 coats, along with other winter essentials, to neighbors in need.

In their words:

“We’re honored to be recognized by One Warm Coat. With record cold this winter, it was more important than ever to ensure our community had access to warm coats. We’re deeply grateful to our volunteers, neighbors, and partners who made this possible.”

Thank you, SEAMAAC, for being an incredible partner.

On March 31, we held our third focus group as part of the Preventing Illegal Dumping in Philadelphia project. This session brought together gardeners and local business owners mostly from the Burmese community and volunteers from our monthly clean-up events.

The focus group aimed to better understand the root causes of illegal dumping and identify long-term, sustainable solutions that reflect community realities. Participants shared valuable insights about what they see on the ground, the challenges residents face, and ideas to improve prevention, education, and the city’s response.

Thank you to everyone who participated and shared your experiences. Interested in sharing your thoughts, email Sabia Afroz at [email protected].

Our Fiscal 2025 Impact Report is here and it wouldn’t be possible without the people who make our work matter every single day.

To our incredible team: your dedication, compassion, and relentless effort are the heartbeat of everything we do.

To our community: thank you for trusting us, showing up, and building something meaningful together.

And to our funders and supporters: your belief in our mission fuels real, lasting change.

Because of you, last fiscal year we’ve been able to reach more people, deepen our impact, and continue moving forward with purpose.

As we look ahead, we invite you to be part of what’s next. If you believe in this work, please consider making a donation to help us sustain and grow our impact. www.seamaac.org/donate

Last week, SEAMAAC held a focus group with community members and volunteers to talk about the issue of illegal dumping.

Residents living with the daily impact of illegal dumping are the experts. Real change starts by putting their voices at the forefront, not as an afterthought. Together, we can and will create a cleaner and greener South Philly.

You can help us by reporting issues and illegal dumping hotspots to 311.
