At the Intermediate School we strive to provide a quality education facilitated by highly qualified teachers and support staff. Our school of nearly 700 students is nestled in the quaint countryside of Jefferson County. Our goal is to support and encourage each child in achieving his/her optimum potential by instilling in them an intrinsic sense of worth, curiosity and love of learning. The Interm

ediate School is fortunate to have a partnership with the Fort Drum Army Installation. One of the many wonderful aspects of our school is that we are home to the children of the brave men and women of the United States Army - 10th Mountain Division. It is the persity and wealth of life experience that our students bring that makes our school shine. We are proud to have the military as part of our school community. The Intermediate School understands the importance of creating a school climate that allows our children to feel valued and safe. To this end we place a great deal of our focus on developing children with good character. A primary goal of our school is to teach our children what it means to be a person of compassion, acceptance, and respect. Throughout the year we will place emphasis in our curriculum of including valuable character traits (Trustworthiness, Fairness, Respect, Responsibility, Caring, Citizenship, Anti-Bullying). We also feel it is important to highlight the outstanding character that our students demonstrate throughout the year through recognition on our "Wall of Characters." We look forward to partnering with home on this initiative as we work to raise emotionally balanced, socially compassionate, and caring inpiduals. We are committed to the success of our school and more importantly our children. Please consider us more than a school, we operate our school with a family like environment and feel. Indian River Intermediate School Flag Day Ceremony:

Today, we gathered to celebrate our nation's flag and recognize a truly historic milestone—the 250th anniversary of the United States of America. For 250 years, our flag has served as a powerful symbol of freedom, unity, courage, and hope. It represents the sacrifices made by countless individuals who have worked to protect the values and opportunities we enjoy today.

As we honor Flag Day, we also reflect on what the flag means to each of us. It reminds us that while we may come from different backgrounds and experiences, we are united as one nation. Here at IRIS, we are especially proud of our many military families and veterans whose service and dedication help preserve the freedoms represented by the Stars and Stripes.

Today’s ceremony was an opportunity for us to show our respect, gratitude, and patriotism. Through music, reflection, and recognition, we celebrated both our nation's history and the bright future represented by the students gathered here today.

Let us take with us a renewed sense of pride, gratitude, and appreciation for our nation and the flag that unites us all. May we continue to honor the values of respect, responsibility, service, and citizenship each day. Thank you to our students, staff, families, veterans, and special guests for joining us in celebrating this special day and the 250-year history of the United States.

On Thursday, May 21, 2026, our IRIS school community gathered together for a special memorial tree planting ceremony in honor of Mrs. Jodi Baytos, a long-time special education teacher whose impact on our school will never be forgotten. Staff, students, family members, and friends came together to celebrate her life, dedication, and the countless ways she supported and cared for those around her throughout her years of service. The ceremony served as a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the positive influence she had on generations of students and colleagues.

Mrs. Baytos was known for her quiet kindness, compassion, and unwavering commitment to helping every child feel valued and supported. She touched the lives of so many through her patience, warmth, and gentle spirit, leaving a lasting legacy within our school community. The memorial tree will stand as a living tribute to her memory and as a reminder of the care, kindness, and dedication she shared with all who had the privilege to know her. Mrs. Baytos is deeply missed, but her legacy will live on.
