Creative Philadelphia is proud to announce Andre Saunders as the selected winner of In Harriet's Footsteps, a citywide call that invited Philadelphians to reflect on the enduring legacy of Harriet Tubman by contributing an original quote to her forthcoming monument.

His winning quote reads:

"Carry your light into the dark, for on the other side of fear is freedom."

The quote will be permanently inscribed on the base of A Higher Power: The Call of a Freedom Fighter, by artist Alvin Pettit, the upcoming statue of Harriet Tubman that will be installed outside of Philadelphia City Hall. The monument will become the first statue in Philadelphia's public art collection honoring a Black female historical figure.

We also recognize finalists Yolanda Wisher, Rainah Chambliss, Anthony DiBelardino, Debra Powell-Wright, and William J. Rooney Jr, for their inspiring submissions.

Thank you to everyone who participated in helping honor Harriet Tubman's legacy.

We're excited to share that the Philadelphia Art Commission has approved the design for the project at Riverview Wellness Village!

Selected artists Marguerite de Messieres and Tsvetomir Naydenov have created a series of permanent, site-specific sculptures designed as a welcoming space for gathering, rest, and contemplation. The project will bring sculptural seating and a monumental gateway to Riverview's campus.

Shaped through community engagement with Riverview residents, staff, and Philadelphians impacted by the opioid epidemic, the project reflects the voices and experiences of the community.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the public survey and engagement process. We look forward to bringing this meaningful public art project to life alongside the Riverview community and our city partners.

AMOR is back at Sister Cities Park! ❤️

One of Philadelphia's most recognizable public artworks has officially returned to the parkway following a full conservation and restoration process.

Before restoration, exposure to weather and sunlight had caused fading and surface deterioration to AMOR (1998) by Robert Indiana. To preserve the sculpture's original vibrancy, Creative Philadelphia partnered with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, Heritage Conservation Collective LLC, Fine Finishes Painting Studio, and the approved painter of the Robert Indiana Foundation to carefully restore the piece.

Now reopened and reinstalled at 18th Street & Benjamin Franklin Parkway, AMOR is once again spreading love in the heart of Philadelphia.
